Hi Folks, has anyone send their lens to Canon Malaysia for recalibration? I have a feeling that my new 85mm F 1.8 may be back focusing.(can this happen to fixed lens or only to zoom?) Anyway after reviewing some of my trial photos I took today I have this unsatisfied feeling.Maybe it could be because of the DOF but the center of my autofocus is just not as sharp as I would expect it to be. So I carried out a simple focus test used by Mr. Bob Atkins (http://photo.net/learn/focustest/) and it seems to confirm my suspicion, just a bit not much though. If Canon does it, is it expensive? I bought mine form overseas and not sure if Canon here accept the international warranty. Thanks

I've sent twice. Send the lens together with the body... First time, confirmed my 70-200 need calibration.... 2nd time, they said no problem with my new body and lenses. But focusing has become more accurate...:?:?

I think cost is no more the issue. If you need to have it done, you just have to send it.

If you can go by yourself to Paremba Square near Subang old airport, better. If not just sent to any Canon Center. First time when I bought 30D and lenses I sent to Paremba myself.

Just recently after I bought 40D, I sent the body and lenses to Midvalley canon center. You can find phone number in Canon Malaysia website.

Good luck

I just did, thanks very much for advice. It was a pleasant affair at the Peremba Service Center, in and out within half and hour. I took your advice and sent it in together with my 30D. They will honor international warranty but there will be a handling fee. Unfortunately my 30D warranty was left in Kuching but I don't think there's anything wrong with it.( Maybe an excuse to upgrade to 40D) It will take a week but told them I need it for work and they will try to rectify it soonest possible. So far, thumbs up for Canon Service! Can't wait to see how it goes. Thanks again shakyhand.

Good that they serve you nicely. If you want your camera faster, call them in the next 3 days and ask to speak to the technician yourself. Ask him nicely that you've got a job this weekend and really don't want to lose the customer. It worked with my 30D last time but remember be nice....

As for my recently sent 40D, they promised that it will take 3 weeks due to festive season, however, it only took 1 week... so they have been good.

Thanks for the tip. I better stick with canon product then, not sure if 3rd party lenses offer such customer care. May I know what's wrong with your 40D since it's so new?

CANON has really lived up to their slogan because I am utterly delighted that I got my lens back so fast and FOC! After getting my lens and camera back I let off some shots and quickly came home to review them. Focus is now spot on and I simply love the bokeh and saturation of my 85mm! Will keep it on from now and learn what other shots can be achieved. I don't know any one else's experience with Canon customer care except for shakyhand, well you all just heard my testimonial. They are great!http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/5047/mg5645yy4.jpg

Not happy with focusing (common canon issue).... also not sure about the exposure... so just sent my camera there since everything is still in warranty and got nothing to lose.....

Happy to hear that you're happy with your gear....:D
