Took a day trip out to Tam Coc..about 2-3 hours drive south of Hanoi. The place is also known as Halong on Land due to the similar landscape of lime-stone hills surrounding the waterways. It looks more like a flooded plains to me rather than a river. This place reminds me of Guilin in China. However, unlike the huge ferries which ply the river Li in Guilin, we ride on tiny sampans that are rowed by mainly women.

The 2 hours ride out thru 3 caves that are so close to the water that one has to duck to avoid hitting one's head against the limestone cave.
