Is there any import tax or sale tax on a lens if I order it from overseas?
For Canon lens (Canon USA, not grey import), does Canon Malaysia honor International Warranty.
The local price is RM1800 (Canon Malaysia). The USA price is RM1600 with postage.
Is it worth the trouble?

I think you may want to reconsider the risk.
the lens flew all the way from US.
imagine how ur lens would be like by the time it reaches u.
it will go through alll sorts of handling and transportation.
I suggest just pay the RM200 in difference to clear the deadly risk :-D
just a thought. but if u have frens carrying it for u. then its a diff story :-D
I ordered a small plastic item once. All the way from USA~~~~
when I receive the small parcel. The plastic inside was shattered.
=_=. do i send it back? no. its expensive. All I got at the end of the day was shattered plastic which I paid for the item and the postage.

I wouldn't risk it for 200 bucks to be honest.

hi Donnyyeo ,
I think you can checked tru those express services company about the rate of tax. all parcels from oversea to Malaysia has a sale tax ! i bought my telescope from Hong Kong they tax me 10% of the stuff price . i think camera or accessories may higher than this rate . you better checked before place your orders.
For me i wont that the risk if only just save rm200 . for my status different because i can save it rm 10K .
good luck .:tongue_roll::tongue_roll::tongue_roll:

No tax for camera related accessories in Malaysia. Bought many lenses through ebay and Canon MT-24EX flash from B and H... no tax:D
One time bought ball-head from Korea. Came to KLIA cargo to collect. Some sweet talking to the officer explaining a bit of how to photograph Agong photos on the wall and he let me go without taxing me anything.:P... Tripod accessories got tax, I believe....

Risks management says no for RM200 difference.
No taxes on photographic items but make sure you buy insurance and deliver through a reputable courier company like DHL or Fedex and not US Mail as it may take a long long time to reach.
For the RM200 difference, honestly I don't bother. If you buy locally can get some warranty also. BTW, which lens is that?

The most important thing you may want them to make sure its stated on the parcel that its Photography Equipment. So its not taxable.
Do take note, if you're shipper is using EMS , then when customs witheld it, it stops there. You'll neeed to make a trip there to declare it ( no costs involved , only your petrol and toll :( ) Or appoint pos malaysia and for a charge, they will get the person to hand deliver it to your hse.
My order for my Marking M20 got stucked in KLIA and with horrible working hours, no choice , need to appoint POS malaysia. If you consider everything, the postage and all, trader locally dont really make such a big margin. Might as well get from them, and establish better goodwill. Better service would surely improve your purchasing experience.
Unless you're getting something like Canon MP-E65 :P
The pain of all this is, back-order sometimes takes for-e-ver and ever and ever to come.
