I am going for white water rafting and going to bring along my k10d. I am putting the camera, and lens into the lowepro bag and into a dry bag ( which is to keep ) the water out. How is the k10d tolerance to the wet and rain? any comments ? i hate to come back from the trip to find out the my k10d 1 month old is damaged due to the wet. If it does malfunction due to the wet, can this be repaired? :(:?:run_away::0

why take such chances?
its not just k10d, but any electronic items' public enemy no. 1 is water.

HI thanks for all the tips...i put the camera in a zip lock, put it in my lowepro bag, the guides gave me a dry bag..and i went...boy, it was sure rough and tumble, water everywhere in and out of the raft...but yet the camera was still safe and dry......there was a stop in the middle of the journey and that is where i stop to take the pictures..i slip and fell with the dry bag and hit the rock floor hard but the camera was still good...the lowepro bag is good...i recommend it...now i wish that there was also good padding for me as I am still hurting from the fall!!!

should get a waterproof casing so you can also snap pictures while you're on the raft itself. :p

My friend who's semi-pro nature photographer carried the K10D in a drizzle for 5 hours and it still performed perfectly! That was his acid test for the K10D. In his job he needs a camera that's weather-proof.

Trip was organised by Mudtrekker.com. This is a grade 4 river, not for children, beginners okay since they never asked me whether I knew how to swim or not. But it is exciting and thrilling..better than roller coaster ride!! THe river is Sg Selangor in Kuala Kubu Bahru, selangor. will post more in flickr. I only used the k10d at the middle stop as it was a longer stop (for lunch ). There are a lot more photos which I used my trusty and faithful canon 710IS. Those were the more faster and exciting rapids..it was unfortunate I could use the K10d for those shots as the tamron 300 zoom would have been very handy indeed!! BTW those shots above were the same rapid. There were about 6 more others and 1 after this last stop. The last stop had the biggest drop and unfortunately i did not have any chance to get that shot!!

Actually i was hoping to see shots of closed up rafters paddling in the boat with water splashing ALL OVER!, and if possible facial expressions of the rafters while tackling the obstacles..
But i guess that would mean possible camera suicide...haha
Thanks for sharing! More please!

Yes u will get to see that..but as i mentioned those were taken by P&S Canon 710is but still it is a great camera to have...
:D
I was hanging on to the dry bag for dear life!!! to take out and keep the cameras is quite a task so only for 2 or 3 temporary stops, i took out the canon and only used the k10d at the middle stop:run_away::run_away:

The K10D is weather-sealed, but not water proof I think, so better not to push it too far. However, bear in mind that most of the DA lenses are not, so water might still sip in. Maybe you start buying the DA* lenses....heheheh! :)
