I am looking for a good portrait lens for my k10d. I am torn between the Pentax 100mm and the Tamron 90mm. Price difference is about rm250-300 ( of course pentax is the more expensive one!! ) Sifus, need your experience and advice which to get. :?:? Once i make up my mind, i intend to get before next weekend for a trip to singapore.

Pretty sure they are both Macro lenses, not portrait lenses.

For portrait you should look at the SMC-A 85mm f/1.4 or the SMC Takumar 85mm f/1.8.

Is there a difference? i saw 2 50mm lenses, 1 is a 50mm1.4 lens that is going for around rm700 and the other is a 50mm 2.8 macro lens....does that mean that the first lens is a portrait lens while the other, also a 50mm is more suited for macro? I thot that if the lens has macro, it merely means that it has another feature added in? If that is not so then the 50mm1.4 pentax lens would be a better choice, wouldnt it ? What other good portrait lens should i be considering?

Lu the macro mode usually just mean that the lens have a lock focus .nothing more...help to focus on a closer spot instead of going back and forth to focus..

No that's wrong, a true macro lens means that it is capable of magnifying subjects to 1:1, ie life sized.

Certain manufacturers label some "non-true" macro lenses with macro labels, though they are unable to magnify at 1:1. They'll do half size, ie 1:2, usually.

Depending on your preferred working distance and subject matter, either one is very very sharp.
