513?

Sorry if you are confused. This is banana's way of remembering the name of WuyiShan. 513 read in Mandarin sounds like WuyiShan to me:redface:

513 - located in Fujian province of China is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Established in the 1st century BC , the area prides itself as the cradle of Neo-Confucianism in China and stunning landscape of cliffs and the gorges of the Nine Bend River.

The highlight of a visit to 513 would entail taking a bamboo raft down The Nine Bend Stream with a total length of 9.5km. It takes two hours to tour the valley. There are 2 time slots to take the ride, in the morning or afternoon slots. We were lucky to get onto the morning slot as the misty morning lends a surreal mood to the whole experience.

Tough work for the 2 'rowers' of each raft as they use long bamboo sticks to push the raft along the river current.

Approx. 3000 + steps up a massive rock cliff leads you to Tianyou Peak.

From the summit you can see an array of green peaks and the Nine Bend Stream winding among the mountains. Here we can see one of the 9 'bends' of the river

Not game for the steep ascend to the top? No worries, for RMB 260 , you can be carried up to the top in a sedan. However, you miss the glorious sights like the one above as the return route down the cliff is at the other side of the rock outcrop. The bushes on the left are the famous DahongPao tea of Wuyi.

Thanks to all viewers who've dropped by to view. Hope my pix has helped in giving some of you some ideas of places to consider for your next travel escapade.

Yes, China has got many great places of interest. Am trying to get there whenever the opportunity presents itself ...before the hordes of tourists spoils it all and push prices sky high :(

One place which should be on everyone's list to go to in China would be the area where the largest and probably the most controversial dam on Huang He( i think) is currently being built. Lots of scenic areas will be covered by water when this is completed and never to be seen again....

Do you mean the stretch where the 3 gorges are? Just saw a documentary last month, where the cruise along the Yangtze has all stopped as most of the valley are already covered by the dam construction.

The other 'destination' I truly cherished is the visit to the home of my forefathers back in the villages of China. As development reach the villages, many of the traditional houses and lifestyle are also vanishing . My recent visit to 513 was an extension of my visit to Fuqing, the birthplace of hubby's grandfather.

Perhaps I'll post some of those pix later

Ah yes yes...3 gorges dam....

forgot the name...pity the cruise stopped. The documentary was dated back to 2005 or 2003, which i saw on Discovery Travel and Adventure...or was it Discovery Channel proper...

I guess no more chance to see those places anymore... :(
