Guys have u seen this device before? it is a multi media player and claims to be able to download and support using its 7-in-1 card reader slots almost all digital formats including tiff and raw..here is the link ; http://www.wolverinedata.com/index.php/site/quicklinks/C11/
if it is that good and at that price, it sure is a good alternative to the epson PMP devices which is almost twice the price and half its capacity :D

Hi Lu,

I am also looking for a PMP cum Media Backup device and was looking through all the old post. This device from Wolverine seems like a very interesting product/alternative to the Epson devices. Have you been able to locate any shops in KL that is selling this device?

Regards,
Jon.

still looking lah...the best option is the the epson PMP which shashinki has....they also have another model but go to the website there and see...www,shashinki.com...they provide good service and reliable. i am looking at one PMP by I company which is 120gb hard disk at 1utama ground floor computer shop(dont know the name) which cost about rm1199. But the epson which is less than half the capacity cost a bit more than that...but then epson is epson and this brand is a local brand i think...

Try look for one in Spore if you are there. Lots of choice and attractive pricing.

Epson is not the best, it depends what you want.

If you want the fancy screen and all you have to pay for it, but the Epson is not the fastest or most reliable.

I'm using the Nexto Ultra ND-2525 (http://www.eastgear.com/shop/product_info.php?cPath=17_101&products_id=833) - It's the fastest on the market about 1GB per minute and it can verify each file.

I was using a Digimate III - but it was a bit slow - I'll be selling it off soon.

The other main option is the Hyperdrive Space (http://www.hypershop.com/shop/information.php?info_id=11).

If you want a screen you can look at the Jobo Giga Vu (http://www.jobo.com/jobo_digital/giga_vu_pro_evolution/gb/), Aska Tripper (http://www.newlaunches.com/archives/aska_tripper_portable_hdd_photo_storage_device.php ) or the Vosonic (http://www.digitalcamerawarehouse.com.au/category236_1.htm).

Personally I thought having a screen was wasteful as I just want a reliable storage for my pics - and fast.

Where did you get the Nexto? Happen to know any shops here in Malaysia which offers it or do I have to go to Singapore to get it?

I was actually contemplating the Digimate 3 already but since you mentioned that it is slow compared to the Nexto and the Nexto has a verify data, definitely a winner to me. Best of all, its still cheaper compared to the Epson.

I bought it online from Shashinki (http://shashinki.com/shop/nexto-ultra-nd2525-professional-portable-storage-device-without-p-688.html) as I buy most of my camera accessories with money I have in Paypal.

You can order online from Eastgear (http://www.eastgear.com/shop/product_info.php?cPath=17_101&products_id=833) too.

I don't actually know of any local suppliers selling it.

And Nexto and Digimate are in different leagues, but then you can tell by the price. Digimate is about RM120, Nexto is about RM700.

Still way cheaper than a decent Epson though yah :)

Hi Guys,

I'm back after so long. Been really busy. Anyway, I just made a purchase on HyperDrive Colorspace with all it's accessories. Was unable to look for HyperDrive Space in Malaysia and Singapore since last year. So since they launched a new unit with colour screen. You can view the transfer while transferring plus lots of other RAW & multiple card support, I decided to go ahead and buy after reviewing Michael Reichmann's comments.

Initial purchase intention was Epson P5000 (pricey) and Aska Tripper V Portable Storage Device (when I ask KK Koh whether he will take orders for this, for a while he did). All have consumed lots of power due to large screen.

So I think HyperDrive Colorspace is a good buy, if not HyperDrive Space is good too if you do not need the color screen.

Has anyone tried using the Creative Zen Vision as a portable backup storage media? It has a nice huge LCD screen, 60Gb and a CF card slot for the price of RM1150.

Well it came out in 2005, I'd be worried about the copy speed and battery life, and if it has the ability to verify after copying.

ST, i do not understand what does the verify function do in the NextoDI. From what i read in the website, once you have copied it across to the HDD, u can then insert it again once more and do a double check to verify that all data has been copied over?

EagleEyes, how is the HyperDrive? Any glitches? I am thinking of getting one of these and trying to decide on one too. Between the HyperDrive or ST's Nexto.. How's the battery life between the both?

Currently in the UK and plan on using it for travelling. =)

Regards.

Yes you put the card in first time, you copy all the files.

If you put the same card in again it'll ask if you want to copy again or verify, there's 2 verify mode - sample and full.

Sample will just check randomly to see if files match the CF card and the copied version, full very will check every file. It's not only checking it's been copied, it's checking that it hasn't been corrupted or changed and it matches the orignial.

I don't know technically how it does it but I'd imagine it uses something like md5 hashing. It's pretty fast.

I was itching to buy one of these portable storage devices. The Hyperspace one especially (Colorspace UDMA), looks very neat. I was considering the Vosonic before I came to know about the Hyperspace through this thread.

But after some thinking, I wonder if these things are really necessary. Better to spend the money on more memory cards? And the balance can go to the much cheaper normal ext HD casing, and perhaps a bigger capacity hardisk.

the very basic, SPACE casing: USD149 = RM540
normal 2.5' casing: <RM100

Difference = RM440 = Two 16GB SDHC Ultra II

basic w pic display, COLORSPACE casing: USD199 = RM716

Difference = RM616 = almost Two 16GB SD Ultra II & One 8GB SD Extreme III (~5k RAW shots? Can last you many days, noh?)

It's so much easier to carry the additional memory cards than the portable hardisk. And imagine the risk of losing the hardisk with all your precious data inside..

Just a thought.

bodyshots, it's true that these HDD are expensive...but i think they come in handy during travelling as u never know when u might run out of memory cards.. cards maybe small and convenient but also small and therefore easier to loose compared to a HDD.
even if we save the money to buy a regular external HDD, we still need a pc to transfer the pics.that could also be a hassle especially on trips.

ST, that verify function does it come in handy? as there are some hdd on the market without that feature and while deciding on which one to get, should that be a determining factor?

Well that's for you to decide, for me it's 100% a factor, I didn't need a screen so my requirement was good quality, verify function and very fast.

Not many models have the verify function which I find essential, I don't want to copy my files from the CF then later in the trip wipe it only to find the files are corrupt when I reach back home.

I use it when travelling as you are away from home for some time and I don't like to take a laptop, it's very useful to have 80-100gb storage that fits simply in your backpack and is lightweight.
