Surprisingly, the new 1DsMkIII in spite of the 'near' medium format quality in terms of MP, has not received as much hype as the D3. Wonder why?

i think maybe because the price is somewhere pricey for average people. while 1DMKIII and D3 are still affordable for slightly average people. my guess tho'. hehehehehe. hopefully it can focus. :run_away: hehehe... joking only. :D

Because it's THAT much different from the 1Ds MKII, it's not innovative or ground breaking - it's just an upgrade.
The D3 is the FIRST Full Frame Nikon camera - a complete new legacy and set of lenses.
I can see why the hype is on the D3.

I know I want one... 21MP is unbeatable. I think MF cams like Phase 1 & Hassie will be in trouble...ouch!

Yes, that's their target market. The medium format users. This camera is a more versatile and so much faster than the medium format yet have sensor very close to the medium format. A better tool for 'action' photography for use for bill boards etc. I had a chat with Teoh of Canon when he allowed me to test the 1Ds3 and that's exactly what he said. Canon is just fulfilling the need of the industry and not really aimed at the mass market.
Then again their pricing naturally take them out of the mass market! :D

1DsMKIII is much expensive than MF camera? really? i thought those MF cameras can easily reach RM100k + lens. :?

I think what noordin means is that the 1Ds MkIII was never designed to compete with mass market or even the D3 (imho). It was meant to be an alternative for professional & studio photogs who are currrently stuck with super expensive MF systems to switch to a cheaper alternative w/out compromising quality. In fact, I know of a lot of photogs who have already abandoned MF in favour of Canon since the MkII came out. Just take a walk around Peninsula Plaza in S'pore (near Cathay) and u can see all the 2nd hand MF systems gathering dust there on the shelves.
BTW the cheapest MF + digital back is around RM40K. And that's not including the lens. At RM28,800 (guess-timate), the MkIII is considered a bargain.

I think the tune would be different if the exchange rates weren't so high right? ;)
I always imagine if I were earning the same amount 1:1 in USD, can get so poisoned everyday because things are like 4 times cheaper!

That's what 1Ds III is maybe competing with:
http://www.adorama.com/catalog.tpl?op=searchresults&searchinfo=mamiya%20zd
Price not much difference really.
MF back is most likely better in image quality but 1Ds mIII more versatile in use.
On the other hand 1Ds mIII is limited in use (and expensive) when compared to other dSLR (1D 1,3 crop, D3).
Most important is ISO going only to 1600, which will make camera much less useful in low light.
for me I rather have good low light performance than 25% larger print capability.

Very similar!
Which one is D1s, first set of comparison images?
Noise wise the 1D seems a tad better.
Highlight seem to be better in 1Ds.
Looking at this I doubt it would be worth all the extra $$$ for 1Ds.
If it wouldn't be for the annoying wide angle crop of 1D it would be close to perfect...lot of bang for buck...

I read in a mag (UK mag) that it is being recalled in the UK due to some AF problem in some rare circumstances... Any reported problem here in Malaysia? Maybe its due to the cold weather? :?

That's 1D MKIII not 1Ds MKIII.
And it's due to temperature changes between cold and hot, so yes cold places would make it worse when it gets warmer.
It only effects certain serial numbers.
