Here's my take ;)

Cropped, brightened the eyes, darkened and blurred out the background (with lens blur) to bring the kid out, reduced noise and unsharp mask.

Kim, after your edit feels like the eyes need a red eye reduction, should tone down a bit IMHO... the brightness too fake. just meh 2 cents. :)

realised i've been practicing quite a lot of editing this whole week over here.. now really need to find time to send my cammie for service so that i can go out for shooting
