thought 580EX II can only be a slave of another 580EX or Wireless transmitter ST-E2...

i already found the answer and it was really frustating..;);)..unlike nikon camera, they have a comander function on the camera to trigger the flash ( when it not mounted to the body )..Canon, we need some extra accessories to do tht..nee d to buy a trigger,..what a lame and lousy design on the canon;)....it was reallly FRUSTATING....:(:(

Well, u can't say canon is lousy due to lacking of the wireless flash feature. Can u call other camera lousy too if their ISO and WB is not as good as Canon? It's just not right to say the camera lousy if it can't fulfill your requirement.

Canon has no built in wireless flash feature. U need a transmitter ST-E2 to play with wireless flash. This little piece of equipment cost around RM500.

Cannot. 380EX is a standalone flash. There is no setting for slave flash.
The next slave flash is the 420ex.:)

Yea, am using 400D with a 580EXII as well. You're right, Canon IS lacking behind in this department...

Hi hi, I'm new to SLR, jz bought 400D 2 mths ago. Besides the 18-55mm kit lens I bought another 50mm 1.8. I don't hv any external flash as yet, thinking of whether to invest in new lens or get a good external flash right now...
Which one more important?:?

Cindai77, this may be a long shot from the answer you're looking for, but maybe you can check out Gary Fong Whale Tail diffuser. Gives a pretty good light distribution, although its on the pricy side and bulky, but IMHO, sure is better than managing 2-3 flashes. If its a Set Up / Studio style then thats something else.

I understand your frustration of the non-commander mode. It would have worked wonders for my macro work, if I had that function :P
