i was inspired by Syahrin Aziz works. his work is so refine. so on one boring night, i tried to do something like what Syahrin Aziz did. spent 2 hours plus to come out with a workflow. oh, yeah... i suck at Photoshop! the output is a real sloppy job tho'. some areas were not masked out correctly, lost of details & textures on the skin, etc.
so here it is...

and the original one is this...

oh, i'm sorry for the TINY size of the photo. i started with the small size instead of the larger one. pretty dumb move, i know.
i will improve it from time to time. sorry to bore you with this photo. hope you don't vomit seeing it. :D

Hmmm I think the surface blur is too much to my liking. The eyes are captivating but the hands looks fake. Too much of blur of the face too. Anyway congrats on your new skill. :)
I love the idea of shifting the messy background into the 'backdrop' like background. Good patience u have.

u got that right. i was carried away with the blur tool. the hand looks funny because it was not in focus due to shallow DOF. i think i use f/4. but when i shot it, it was never my intention to edit it until this far. sorry!

oh, mki88 gave a very good link on how to achieve the same effect like i did.
should thank mki88 for that.
you need to familiarize with "layer mask".
it can be confusing. i know i was confused when i first try it.

Well done on the good subject isolation.
I know it's not easy, perhaps easier under CS3? :?
