HI, I am going to angkor wat and siem reap for a week holiday in march. I want to take shots of Angkor wat and other interesting places in siem reap and also Phnom Penh. Especially dusk and evening pictures as i plan to be at angkor wat for about 2-3 days. Going to PP to stay with my sister in law, and then getting a local guide to bring us to Angkor wat for 3 days. Any advise on when, where and what to take and what to look for? My kit is the K10d pentax, tamron 28-75 2.8mm, tamron 28-300, smc fa 50mm 1.4. Do I need to get a good wide angle lens? Am thinking of DA21 or DA40...pls advise :D

lu,
I am being to seam reap last year, great place to shoot photo, but be aware on dust and protect your gear well cause all the road at ancient Angkor is sandy dust road (similar with beach side). Please bring polorised filter. Best time is early in the morning to get landscape and also can avoid visitor which will ruin ur composition, Have a great holiday.

None of the lenses you mentioned is wide enough. Need 17mm at least. 28mm is good only for FF. In fact ultra wide is even better, like 10mm :-)

i had a great time taking photos in Siem Reap and Phnom Penh. My advice? don't miss the floating village..but don't go during the day.. go at the end of the day.... before the setting sun.. watching the sun set over the tonle sap is magical.. plus spend more time near the floating village where the real Cambodians live.. u will get a lot of good people picture opportunities.. i wished i did that the last time.instead of just passing by.. again go in the evenings when everyone is out.. if u go in the afternoon i heard it'll be deserted and the boat ride is not very interesting either..
here are some of my captures.. as reference?
