Jason,
When i went to ur shop last time and enquire about the new DLSR, u treated me like sh*t. This is first time I was treated this bad by a merchant. Doesn't even give me a try on the product and ignore me afterwards. Let me wander in ur shop. And i told u I'm new in DLSR. Then i asked u what kind of lens can be use for that DSLR and u just point me to the glass and raised ur voice to me. And again ignore me..... I still remember u not servicing any customer!!!
If i know every single da*n thing, then i would walk straight to ur shop and order the stuff without questioning u. At least u should have given me a little talk about the DSLR and lens that can be used. Anyway it's good i walk away from the shop and get cheaper prices from other shop and they let me test and brief me every single things.
Actually my fren also kena from u cos u service his DSLR and he come back and complaint, u raise ur voice again. Sigh.
If i walked in again to ur shop, I hope u treat me like a customer next time and dun let me wonder again in ur shop. I'm not a rich guy, if u treat me well and explain, I would buy from u anytime. If i dun buy straight, i would come back n buy from u. Regards

Hi jnikon, I got different experience to you. I called J-One 2 weeks ago to ask about prices for some wide angle lens, a lady picked up my call and she answer me nicely for every questions. And also, they fax a quotation(very good price) in time as per my requested in phone.

I may seem biased, being a regular at J-One, but some time ago I had never heard of J-One and just happened to be Amcorp mall accompanying a friend.
I wondered into the shop at Jason treated me very well, he had the lens I'd been looking for in stock and gave me a price better than I could elsewhere.
He's been nothing but polite and knowledgeable towards me, and from then on I've been a loyal customer.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend J-One and I'm sad to hear you had a bad experience there.

Maybe he already got regular customers that is so smart and knows what they all want, so he ignores newbies like me. :(
Really sad that may ppl in the forum recommended me to J-One but my fren( season photographer) and i not treated well.
Hoping all well in the future. :)

nak jnikon, he always busy... as 1 person working in J One and have to take care of everything himself.
i found him not really dont wanan expalin much things to u. he's just too busy with suppliers, customers and others things which he needed to take care of. i believe he will be very happy to explain to u anything within his knowledge. just that he's too tight up with everything.
like me if i found he's too busy to chat with or ask questions(as i hang around there very often). i will walk away for awhile to let him concentrate on serving his customer and make a return back for another chat when he's free.
i hope u understand how hard an oldman have to take care of everything within himself.

Hi all,
I have a nice experience with Jason, I knew him quite a while... but I think he don't know me (my office's senior photographer recommended him to repair/service my old FE camera in his old shop - Kota Raya, KL many years ago).
Back to 2005, I sent my Canon A70 to repair (having sensor wiring problems before Canon recall all the units for free repair), he charged me some amount of service/repair charges. Two months later, I found out that Canon giving free repair, I went back to J-one (at that moment, his shop was at the 1st floor, next to Waltson in Amcorp mall) and asked Jason about the refund... he refunded 80% of the charges, only charged me some handling fee, which I think it was a fair arrangement.
I went to his shop last month, I'm looking for a new D50, he did explained to my questions and recommend me a new D40. I went around to look for an used D50... at last I found a used D40kit for myself.
I'm sad for the a bad experience you had gone through.
in the years that i've known jason...way back during the years when he was in kota raya...i have had nothing but only positive experience with him...:D
jnikon, maybe you caught him on his busy or 'off' days. we are, after all only human. try going back to him with an open mind, you might change your perception of him...:D
as for information and such, this here forum at shutter asia, i'm sure you could gain a wealth of experience...ask the right questions, join the TT, enjoy the friendship...
Peace...

let me share my story... and please take note that i involved in dSLR starting last December.
about few weeks back, i went to J-ONE to purchase a tripod.
this is my first visit to J-ONE.
and i live in Penang. imagine my trip from Penang to KL by bus.
when i walked in, Jason was busy entertaining other customers that also i think doesn't know much about dSLR.
so i waited there and keep myself entertained by looking all those fancy cameras & lenses.
after like 10 to 15 minutes, his wife which just finished doing some works at the counter, came & ask me my intention.
i told her everything that i want to purchase a tripod, which i already know which model that i want.
this is the first tripod that i even bought in my entire life.
but how do i know which model that i want?
of course by asking around esp. in SA.com shoutbox and of course some research using the wonderful internet.
back to my story,
i told Jason's wife that i want Manfrotto 190x tripod along with Manfrotto ball head.
btw, i called Jason one day before i came to his shop.
so Jason's wife took the time to explain to me about the tripod and told me that ball head is out of stock.
after like another 15 minutes, after Jason finished entertaining his customer, he came & entertained me.
he even take the liberty to explain to me about the tripod & head that i plan to purchase eventho i didn't ask about it.
it was informative explanation.
so after some talk, he gave me a special price.
he even willing to post the tripod bag all the way to Penang for free since Manfrotto vendor doesn't deliver the bag along with the tripod. funny!! :D
Jason will contact me when the bag is available and of course will post it to me.
i have to say, it was the most pleasant buying experience in my life.
so based on my story, i leave it to u guys to judge.
but let me share a few things that i keep reminding myself when buying stuffs.
1) do research on stuffs that u wanted to buy. get as much info as u can.
2) always control your emotion coz u'll make bad decision when u are mad.
3) human is human. we have good time & bad time. it's normal.
4) if u r not serious, don't expect ppl to be serious with u.
5) join SA.com shoutbox! there's a bunch of ppl that can help u! hehe.
so i hope my 2 cents can help other ppl esp. those who are new in this field.
i know how it felt to be a newbie. trust me.
and i learned my lessons through the hard way...
please don't hesitate to ask around in ShutterAsia.com.
there's plenty of ppl would be more than happy to help u out in any issues.
thanks & have a great day! ^__^
p/s: forgot to mention, i bought Manfrotto 190XProB with Manfrotto 804RC2 head! it worth every ringgit! thanks to Jason and of course fulat!!! ^__^

I find it necessary to come to Jason's defense.
I have known Jason's since the 70's when he and his younger brother were repair interns under their uncle. I have never found Jason to be rude as you have described. On the contrary, I find him respectful, jovial and at times clownish.
Jason and Anne run a 2-person show. You probably caught them at a busy period but expected to be served immediately.
jnikon, If you can sort out your misunderstanding with Jason. You will find his price on Nikon equipment to be very competitive. On top of that, Jason is probably one of the best camera/lens repair men in the country.
JNikon,
I can confirmed what all of those already written up there.
So no need for me to repeat them..
My few trips to J-One always a pleasant one, eventho' just
window shopping, Jason will chat you up.. IF he's not busy that
is... and always call by your first name, once he got to know..
:D

i got nothing but praises for jason n his wife. there're only 2 of them running the show and like others said, if he's FREE, he'd be more than happy to chat and explain to you on anything about photography. i sometimes just lepak there and chat with him if i see him free.
you'd notice that his shop doesn't stock many stuff like a camera shop in sg wang or bukit bintang because most of customers frequented his shop know what stuff to get before entering the shop. people go to him because of his reputation and his personal service. his price is very competitive and fair.
anyway, jason. take it easy and just take note of the complaint.

hi RobertNikon,
first of all, welcome to shutterasia! glad to have new members joining each day.
anyway, about the tripod, i'll take some photos and post it.
but to let u know, mine is pan-tilt head (804RC2).
it is very stable but not as flexible as ballhead.
need time to adjust it however it's very precise.
about the tripod, it is very good, very solid.
the only thing that i think is not good about the design is the screw caps!
they keep on falling off, so i need to take them off & put them somewhere else.
btw, what is the tripod & head that are you looking for? :?

We've all had our off days and bad days, whether with others or ourselves.
It's better if you were to sort it out with the man personally instead - tell him you found him unfriendly or not customer-friendly, whatever.
Jason may take some time getting back to us sometimes, but he's a professional, helpful, accommodating, ethical and honest. Talk to him.

Thanks for the reply.
I try to find a durable tripod and ballhead which suit my need for all purpose and daily photographing.
Waiting to see the pics of your tripod.
Hullo all,
I never met Jason when his premise was at Kotaraya, and the first time I met him was in Amcorp mall inquiring for some items last year.
I was in my office wear, I didnt bring any camera bag with me.
He was very courteous in entertaining my queries.
In our subsequent interactions at his premises in Amcorp mall, to quote white eyes,
I find him respectful, jovial and at times clownish.

I was very surprised at Jason's friendliness when I first went to his shop last weekend. Sure there were 3 customers that he and his wife had to entertain, but as soon as he was finished with them, he attended to me.
I tooked a liking to him instantly and became a first-time customer buying myself a Nikon 50mm f/1.8 lens and a UV filter. His price is fair and competitive. I wished I had bought my D40 + kit earlier from him.

I have never had a bad experience with Jason. From the first time I went to his shop (2 years ago) till now, I'm always treated well and have been treated well. He's polite and soft spoken. And I see that's how he treats other customers as well everytime I was at his shop.
So I'm very surprised with your post. Did you ever look back and ask yourself how you were in your encounter. If you had started nicely, I'm certain he would have treated you very nicely as well. There's always 2 sides of the story and from the response here the support for Jason is overwhelming.

Yes, I found Jason friendly in the past BUT I notice that in recent weeks, coincidentally around the time this topic first appeared, Jason is now even more friendlier.....
My point is this: Yes, customers can be very fussy, too demanding and downright nasty at times, but they are still customers and have every right to expect good customer service.
I am not saying that the complainant is right because none of us were witnesses to the incident and as such, cannot pass judgement. But it is his right to demand good customer service.
May this be an eye-opener to all of you who are selling. People do differentiate between good and bad customer service, and price is not always the determining factor.

passing judgement onto others, eh?? bro, you are free to say whatever based on your experience (nobody said you're lying about it). and many (including me) who came in defense of jason said based on our own experiences with him. let's stop there and not passing judgements on each other, kay? those who read this thread can make their own conclusions.

is the eye of the beholder thinggy.
who knows this can be constructive to jason. :D
Make Love ... not War!! hahaha :partyon:
Wow ... I got my D80 from Jason because he was the only person who would actually take the time to explain things to me, and gave me very frank assessments between my options (I was considering between D40 and D80 at the time).
And I've been back a few times and he's been always friendly, althought I haven't bought anything else from him yet. Even just earlier today when I was there to ask about a dry cabinet, he layan me well.
So, I seriously don't think he's been unfriendly or anything, at least not to me. And I've got the D80 way before the initial post about the complaints.
Just my own experience.

no one is here are asked by J_one here to defense for him. and i strongly feel that u have make it a personal attack statement as u called him a pretender.
anywhere, most comments here are given base on thier own opinions and experiences with J_one. no one have been told to stand up and defence for J_one or playing any fan club here.
