I think some form of governance is needed in here to that members wont stray with the possibility of so many challenges that could be easily accessed and posted by other members. This will make challenges seem crappy if there are too much challenges of different theme.

My suggestion is that the mod of the thread comes up with a theme for challenge, probly one theme every 2 weeks. This should give members ample time to come up with something creative with relevance to the theme/title set.

Also, we need to have some form of judging and "award" for challenges' winners. DPC has developed a very neat way of using members' votes for this purpose, and their award is a highly recognizable "VIRTUAL RIBBON" which are given to top 3 spots' winners (of different color coded ribbons).

probably a standard template with rating, easier for people to vote and give comments if any. My 2 cents

Was thinking of creating poll for each challenge of those top 10 contenders, then let users vote.

Winner can be awarded a ribbon or special user status "Shutter Challenge Winner" or similar.

I agree once a month to start might be a good idea as we might well be busy with other stuff.

Sounds like a good idea....kickstart us lazy bums to post more and better photos.

How about using a point-based polling system? Members can allocate points based on a 1 to 10 scale to contestants.

For example, 1 is for "I'm so depressed by this photo I'm contemplating suicide" and 10 is for "I wanna grovel before the fellow who shot this and beg him to be my sifu."

Just my 2 cents and 5% gomen service tax.

Some more feedback here -
Could view attached pix in threads yesterday, but cannot view or click on links in QQ's, Leslie's and James' pix.

No problems with JackJack's or SK's even - JackJack's covers yesterday & today, SK's bell pepper pic today - all are fine.

This is what I get:
Name: _DSC0069 resized.JPG Views: 17 Size: 209.3 - Leslie's
Name: juggler_watermark.jpg Views: 18 Size: 211.1 - kimberley's
Name: Shallow_Alone.jpg Views: 9 Size: 74.2 KB - James'

Perhaps you hadn't logged in yet.

If you aren't logged in the pictures wont show up inline, they will only show up as attachments.

Yes this point based polling system is great. gives a much more in depth details on a submitted work. but can we actually come up with such a templete to be attached to every postings (under challenge submission).

A test run on challenge series ceoncept would be like this.

At the moment, I'm setting 2 rules on challenge.
1. BASIC EDITING CHALLENGE
2. ADVANCE EDITING CHALLENGE

as for awards, here they are :
1. GOLD SHUTTER AWARD
2. RED SHUTTER AWARD
3. BLUE SHUTTER AWARD

I feel this type of award is much better than any material award. Maybe except cash :D....

Once someone won it, can we have attachment to their profile whenever he/she post....5 Gold 2 Red 1 Blue Shutter Award beside their avatar whenever they post in threads....that would be cool...

Just my worthless 2 cents...:)

Why not Gold, Silver and Bronze?

I was thinking along the same lines, awards will be permanently shown in the users profile, and perhaps latest award shown next to their avatar.

Perhaps we could follow those whisky's label....

Blue, Gold, Black and Red...should in this order for JW whiskies

Blue - the winner of the challenge
Gold - runner up
Black - 2nd runner up
Red - consolation / commendable pic...

hehehe something unconventional...:whipped:

Yes. once SA becomes more well known, heck... the winner can also make claims that they are the owner of some pic(s) which has won Shutter Asia's prestigious award in their portfolio. Totally cool if you ask me. hehehe

me think Gold, Silver and Bronze is good enuff and neat. Using colors like red, blue and ... may not be standard for all.

I prefer good ol' :smashfreak:

While I like the whiskey label idea, Gold, Silver and Bronze is still easier to identify with. Maybe if someone wins 5 or 10 Gold awards, he can become a Platinum Shutter Bug.....
