Having seen all the beautiful portrait in forum especially posted by some of the better or best? from Jayhan, Razor & others. I was thinking how amazing one can turn someone that look naturally normal into such beautiful in photos:worship:, and it triggered my itchiness to do some "serious" portrait now!!

I wondered:?; and need advice :

1) Where can I get portrait lessons? especially post processing & models? *free is better but of course I'll pay if it's affordable..

2) For multiple flash setup, is it better to have 1 on camera speedlite + 1 IR speedlite or wireless radio trigger with 2 off camera speedlite?

Cheers and thank you in advance.

Buy books and attend workshops, perhaps you could approach those people's work who you admire and ask them for their rates to tutor you.

Can't beat some hands on learning - but you HAVE to know the basics inside out first.

All the basic types of lighting, what they do, why you use them, understand contrast dynamic range, composition etc etc

Lot's to learn :) I spent about RM3000 on books, and a few more thousands on workshops and classes just to accelerate my learning.

Then after that just practice practice.

Have been considering running some portraiture workshops including basic PP, but no time to organise.

Agreed with what the rest mentioned. Do check out the Events/Thread or look at Ted's blog where he will post updates for his workshops.

Jayhan is another person who holds workshops as well.

Buy books and attend workshops

Books.... spent 2 hours in MPH reading some of the Photoshop & Portraits book and I got myself blur:redface:.... WORKSHOP, That was what I mean, can't wait to attend one, is there any studio or so call college which do that?

That's da operative word one must remember to do often

Oh ya ya... I'll do once I learnt how to do it...:D
Remember you do workshop but is it restricted to Nikon user only? I need skill in Post processing... you teach?:D
Please let me know, saw your work and like them very much!

Do check out the Events/Thread or look at Ted's blog where he will post updates for his workshops.

As mentioned is there any place where I can just drop in and learn instead of waiting someone to organize a workshop? you know sometimes the workshop might be not what I wanted...

Thanks Edward & Zuhrie for the advice.

Most of the time the main problem in learning portrait photography is to find a suitable model. This will usually result in ton of tons of wife/girlfriends/kids photo.

erm, my workshop (http://tedadnan.com/blog/?p=110) usually will be booked within 24-36 hours after posting one, (not to mentioned pre-sold slots even before the ad were posted up), your best bet is to join group outing and yes, practice more.

By saying that, why not you start by shooting a picture or two and post it up here for commentaries.

ask ur fren to e ur model loh

You musta have some friends who is willing to have a few photos tken by you no? Practice on them. For references, ripped out magazines ad and put them in clear binders and bring it along and show it to your friend as guide.

Once you done (don't worry much about editing and such, get your composition and exposure spot on first) upload here lah (noticed I mentioned upload here a few times ady?).

Bear in mind, different photog has diferent backgrounds and different taste so do not be disheartened if the commentaries are kinda negative. You must remeber, you please them all lah.

Sooooooooooo, go out and shoot, and then post it here. Don't wast time no more :rasta:
