I found this article very interesting and useful, so I thought I'd share it with you guys, includes stuff about the filter mounts, what to look for and info about CPL including Käsemann series.
The B+W filter manufacturing company, founded in Berlin in 1947 by business partners Biermann and Weber have been manufacturing filters for the most diverse and demanding applications for more than 50 years. Their 1985 merger with Schneider-Kreuznach expanded the B+W line of products to include more technical optical filters for science and technology. This extensive experience has made them the leading brand for demanding professionals and amateur photographers for creative imaging with optical quality.http://www.robertwhite.co.uk/bwfilters.htm
I am using the 77mm B+W CPL and it's build quality and optics are indeed excellent.
I'm also using Hoya Pro1D UV filters for protection and Cokin for stuff like ND Grad and Sunset...so I'm brand agnostic :)

B+w has long been the very best filter can find, not really new...

German lenses and filters have been well known for all these years. in fact both Leica and Hassie lens coatings last way much longer than their Japanese counterparts. Jap coatings wear out faster than German technology.
But in the end, u pay for wat u GET.No compromise in quality especially in German made products. So a RM600 -1,000 filter has a big difference compared to a RM200 filter :D
I am using cheapo Hoya CPL filters. My samples here: http://www.shutterasia.com/forum/showthread.php?t=456

I have both B+W and Hoya pro CPL in 77mm size. The B+W somehow gives better results. :)

Hi,
Not sure this is the correct thread or not, anyways, can I use a CPL filter on top of a UV filter? Or is it best not to use together?

You may get vignetting if you stack filters. However, if the lens is a full-frame lens, then there should be no problem.

I posted this before, someone recently selling B+W alloy 010 UV 77mm filter at RM200, I did a check on it and found there is no such thing on their website. But seems everyone is selling it at Ebay, no one can confirm whether there is such a thing or if it's fake.
To my understanding B+W are made of brass and quite heavy.

B+W filters are brass only.

I highly recommend that you get them directly from B+W distributor in Singapore (Cathay Photo).
Fyi, there is no distributor in Malaysia. There are clones floating around the market. They are known as the asian version.

So far, Only MRC UV 010 has Alloy version and Brass Version. B+W Alloy filter is also Genuine Original B+W filter. The glass is high quality same as the brass. only mount material is different. Alloy against Brass. Many photographer are also happy with the Alloy one around the world. :) That's why you can always see it on eBay...
Have you ever heard of xxxspam? the website is http://xxx.spam (http://hvstar.net). It seems many US/UK guys use them. I once surf online and found it via photo forums. they sell genuine, original B+W and Hoya filters at great price. they have B+W grad ND and cpl of course. you may have a visit if you are interested.

Hehe sry for digging up this thread but I have 1 question about CPL filters .... I recently found out that CPL works as a "ND FILTER" ( except it's not gradual? ) to stop down the light in 1 or 2 stops .... now my question is ... do we have to turn the ring to the dark side then only works or it doesn't matter which position the ring is ?
I mean u know how there is 1 part where the sky looks bright and when u turn it more, the sky becomes dark ... does the dark part stops more light than the bright part or they are the same ?

Nah it doesn't matter, it still makes the overall exposure longer than without the CPL if you use the polarizing effect or not.

dearest sifu, i got some questions here;
i use std hoya CPL 67mm on my tamron 17-50mm, minor vignetting appear even without stacking on my pro1D UV filter, why ar? is it because the tamron too wide for the 67mm? should i just use 77mm and step down to 67mm in order to prevent the vignetting?
i bought the standard 67mm CPL at RM 140, is it expensive?
what are the prices for 77mm CPL for both Hoya and B&W?
what are the prices for 77mm ND8 for both Hoya and B&W?

If I am not mistaken Hoya Pro-1 77mm CPL is around RM300.
If you see vignet probably is better to step-up from 67-77mm then 77mm CPL and UV.
