Just when I thought the Macro Ring Light or 580EX is so bulky, troublesome & expensive to do macro shot, and the built in flash will produce shadow at the bottom of picture. Somehow I recall sometime somewhere an article about homemade flash diffuser, so I decided to turn my little old 220EX into macro flash.

There is another similar work by Shaolintiger here (http://www.shutterasia.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3749), saw it when I posting this.

The idea is simple, it’s very similar to Shaolintiger’s “Botol Susu Diffuser” which spread the light evenly & softly, but with some extras - to built a light and small macro flash that extend towards the front of lens and will not produce shadow at the bottom which course by the lens.

Basically what I used are :
1) Empty shower bottle
2) Aluminum foil
3) 2 cotton tissue
4) Rubber band
5) Double sided tape and black tape

The steps :
1) The bottle was cut into half according to the length of my lens, roughly 45 degree opening downward.
2) Cut a hole near the bottom according to the size of 220EX with folded side for stability.
3) Line the inside with aluminum foil
4) Wrap the tissue over the opening and secure it with a rubber band.
5) Slot the speedlite into the diffuser and done!

Frankly the result was not bad, see for yourself and enjoy!
