For about the same price, u can either get a pair of cheap China lights (many on the market) and risk burning down the house...
or get a better-quality 2nd-hand "famous" brand eg Bowens, Elinchrom, etc.
I just sold off a pair of 2nd hand Bowens to a lucky guy so can't help u there. But hunt around. U may get lucky.
There r also slightly better Korean alternatives to China brands like Aurora.
It all depends on what u wanna shoot, indoor/outdoor usage, whether u r pro or just main-main, your budget etc. Many factors to consider lah...

Hi AB.
Is there a way to use the built-in flash to trigger both the SB800 as well as the studio lights. I am still using one of those China ones and having difficulty to sync the studio lights with SB800 . Hoping there's some kind of gadget to help do that
Thanks.:)

How do you trigger the SB-800 flash at the moment? Nikon in-built CLS system? If you set your SB-800 to manual mode, it should be able to trigger the studio lights but when using your body at commander mode, it will trigger the studio lights.

It depends on the lights, not all have optical triggers.
You might have to buy a set of wireless triggers and sync cables, one transmitter for the cam, then triggers for the strobes & speedlight.

The beauty of the SB800 is that it can be incorporated into yr studio lite system. I sometimes use the SB800 as a background light with a gel.
A cheap china-made infrared trigger will trigger both sb800 + studio lights together.
Here's an old-school tip if u wanna save money on a trigger. Just cover yr SB800 with old exposed film. When yr SB800 triggers, no light escape frm the flash (cos its covered) but the strobes will detect the "rays" and fire.
In other words, u r using yr SB800 as a trigger (but not as a flash).

I used SB800 as remote and trigger it using the built-in flash. But doing this doesnt fire my studio lights

What is the setting on the SB800 if I want to trigger it using the chinamade wireless trigger?

1. Make sure your studio strobes have a "slave" mode and it is switched on. (maybe some cheap strobes dun have this mode but i m not too sure)
2. Check yr SB800 manual. It teaches u how to set to "wireless" mode.
Good luck!

I dont have a button on the slave mode that I can switch on and off but I am able to fire all the studio lights wth the wireless transmitter from the camera hotshoe to the receiver on ONE of the strobe and I suppose that triggers the other 2 strobes via sensor.. I suppose...? Thanks anyway
