Shaolin Tiger had wrote an article about it. Here it is
Super Wide Angle Lenses for dSLR - Sigma 10-20mm, Tamron 11-18mm, Sigma/Tokina/Nikkor 12-24mm, Canon 10-22mm (http://www.shutterasia.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3168)

I'd personally go with tokina 12-24 mm. Of course, your particular camera brand is better in making lens. If you are in a tight budget go with tokina.

I would say that depends on what cam u are using. If u think u will be upgrading to full frame in the near future, then go for Tokina because it can be used on full frame while sigma's can't. Otherwise, I will go for sigma cuz it has 10mm.

Sorry that's not true, the Tokina 12-24mm is also a DX or digital crop lens.

You might be thinking of the Sigma 12-24mm which is in fact a full frame lens.

For a FF camera, is the Sigma the ONLY FF lens? Since the coating is not up to standard, its either the Sigma or 1st party lens?
I'm considering a super wide lens for a FF body.
Thanks

The Sigma is the only ultra wide for full frame and yes it's not a great lens.

But do you really need a true 12mm? The best option is the Nikkor 14-28mm f/2.8 which can rival wide primes.

After that the widest is the Nikkor 17-35mm f/2.8 and the Canon 16-25mm f/2.8 MKII

Do you mean the 14-28 2.8D or the new 14-24 2.8G?
Is there a 14-28 D lens and is it still available? Price range? Any recommendations where to get it?

I meant the new 14-24mm f.2/8 :) Typo.

Both lenses are very good... I have read quite a number of reviews on the net (want to get one oso) and it boils down to your preference... but for wide lense (beside Nikkor), it seems there are more sigma user when compared to tokina. Sigma is wider... by 2mm and its a lot...

hehe... just a noob's opinion... 2X1 sen... :D

i tried tokina 12-24, sigma 10-20 and tamron 11-18 before, put aside the tamron 11-18 ;).

the widest i have is 17-50, 12-24 is not that wide, only 5mm diff, therefore i choose the widest 10-20.

I bought the sigma coz it is the widest our crop cameras can go, so go for it.
If you have your doubts then go for the Canon 10-20mm. Few hundred more only for what i think a better lense than this sigma.

I am on nikon so i had no choice :D

never a fan of ultra-wide lens but i've tried someone else's Sigma, and it seems like the zoom-ring is not very smooth. maybe because it is still new?

Honestly, if nikon has it's own 10-20mm i would get it......provided the cost is not 50% more than 3rd party lah, but with nikon this is not possible. Just take a look at the Nikon 18-55mm VS Tamron 18-50mm both f2.8....Nikon a clear winner BUT the price difference....about 5times more! wow!

It's always better to root for the home team. Since you're a canon user, going for the Canon 10-20 is best choice in terms of price advantage, features and quality. Think about it how often will someone change their wide angle lense? A few hundred extra is well worth in the long run.

P/S: If you buy 3rd party and later you get a newer body, it may have compatibality issues as 3rd paty lenses are not future proof as well.

My last 2 cents

go for the tokina 12-24mm or now the tokina 11-16mm f/2.8..

several reviews have proven it sharper than the Nikkor 12-24mm f/4..i know u're on canon, but still....

that asides, the built quality is much much better on the tokina...plus so far i haven't heard of any incompatibility issues with Tokina lenses for newer camera bodies

Sigma on the other hand.......
