I'm using 400D with kit lens for group photo...and it's sharp at centre but other look a little blur..why? Which lens should I use..50mm 1.8?

perhaps u use small large aperture like f/1.8 which cause shallow Depth of Field. try smaller aperture like f/4, f/8 and so on depends on how big is the group. for a group shot, u may need to use Wide Angle lens.

He's using kit lens, most likely 18-55mm, which isn't really sharp at the edges.

at most time, PP will do the job. use f/5.6 and above to be safe. So lower shutter speed is a must, thus the tripod come in place.

Kit lens is weak at 18mm at wide apeture f3.5, try stop down to apeture f8.0 or above will help.
or u can use 35mm above which produce sharp image throughout..

Canon kit lens can't be that bad. :?
i think smaller aperture could reduce his problem a bit. then kick in some Photoshop magic. :D
16-35mm f/2.8 L MKII, what a mouthful! and i'm sure it is darn expensive too. :D
