Guys. im looking forward to get a new lens for portrait shooting and serves as a general purpose lens. This are the two options that im considering. both price at about the same price where the 24-70 is 300 more expensive. What are your suggestions?
Im just looking at these two lens so pls stick to it by not recommending other lens.
The reason i chose these two lens is because its still usable on a FF camera. So its worth the keep for me :)

Neither have HSM so I'd think hard about it.
I'd go for 24-60mm f/2.8 if I had to choose the Sigma mid-range.

good idea also. The 24-70 is just too big, the 82mm means extra cash for filters. Thanks for the recommendation.
anyone knows any shop selling sigma 24-70mm f2.8?
and how much is it?
please PM me.
need to buy this lens urgently.

Hi dude,
Pls check at Lowyat or Sungai Wang Fotokem.
They selling at RM1800.00 shashinki.com selling at RM1695
Why never try Tamron 28-75 f2.8 or 17-50mm f2.8?
They are sharp compare to Sigma 24-70mm. 1 more thing is that Tamron 28-75 f2.8 is sharp at f4 and very sharp at f8 to f11 compare to sigma
Check before u buy this lens or else u :(

I d' recommend the sigma 24-70mm f2.8, if for pentax,im already tested! Third party is Third party, always think about OEM..SMC PENTAX DA, more sharpest than others third party lens, even the 18-55mm kit lens.

not only filters, 82mm lens caps dont come by everyday if yours snaps..but still, i'd take the 24-70mm over others (tamron, tokina, other sigma equivalents)..
personally i find the tamron is sharper than the sigma only if u're a pixel peeper otherwise its just the same..but the sigma is much better built :)

Have tried both sigma 24-70 and tamron 28-75 for portrait shots, sigma 24-70is very soft using widest f2.8, acceptable in 2/3 to 1 stop down, where tamron 28-75 is as sharp as tamron 17-50, even widest to 1/3 stop down is fantastic although sigma colour more contrast.
Half body shots with focal to 70-75mm can create a very nice bokeh for tamron, moderate only for sigma. Both have little pincussion but can be easily corrected in PS.
I'm very particular in sharpness, colour in second, therefore, tamron is still the best. :)

So how do you rate the colour of the Tamron compared to Sigma?

different ppl have different taste, colour can be easily edited by shooting RAW, but sharpness need more time to salvage in PS.
just my POV.
tamron colours lacked punch, i don't have the time to PP all the images to get the colours right..even if i had the time i wouldn't want to.
the lens' infamous focus errors just distract you from taking a proper picture..
so i got my first copy of the sigma 24-70mm..it's quite sharp at f/2.8 (great by f/3.2)..and the bokeh's buttery too :)
i didn't even have to exchange it like 20 times to get a good copy! :P

I have 3x Sigma lenses (24-70 f2.8 included) and I find that their colors are towards the warm tones.
as for the 24-70 f2.8, i personally always snap it at f4.0 which I find is where it is sharpest.

i second that...if i'm not mistaken the warm tones (yellowness) is due to the coatings sigma uses..different manufacturers/lenses use different coatings which result in different colour tone..so it's really a matter of preference not quality.
