My Former Co, bastards till the end..which is why i left them :P and now they left something even worse, a fellow colleague, a young lady who died due to overworked  .
This is her thread, before she went off
http://pinkmayflower.multiply.com/journal/item/140
and this is her friends thread
http://kaiyan.multiply.com/journal/item/197
I took the links from Clubsnap after a fellow SG fren called me some weeks ago.
Btw HP Singapore which where i was based was no better off than HP Malaysia. For those who think u are losing your grip on a silly job Get the heck out of it, its ok to live simpler with lesser pay, but not to live shorter with no pay and nothing anymore.
Lesson learn - Don't end up like her. Which is what i did, buzzed off from the cursed company :P
In life there are choices, its you who decide what you choose

Unc Noordin they do, the bigger and more famous they are, the worse is yet to come. Thats why they spend a lot on medical benefits for staff, including specialists.
Save for a few good co's around most are hard pressed to push their employees to the maximum due to global competition etc.

with all due respect to the deceased, i believe that it is the individual who manages their workload and their career.
don't blame the company if one cannot manage his/her own workload.

matikatak. i was with HP SG for 2 1/2 years 75% of the folks there are overloaded and the higher you are the more stress you have to endure, which is by any case normal. But imagine in a situation 300 emails to respond in a day......
Which is why i left after getting my PR from them, :D Not all company's are like this, not all individuals are like this, some just love to work, some love it for the $$$, some just need to survive. But to have someone dying from it, thats the limit. Now the New Paper (gossip paper in SG is questioning the Govt,if the govt is so worried on giving a future for the country, and is this the future that they want ? Being a regional - human capital based hotspot in Asia aint easy as their main asset are people. But is this what they really want. The unseen costs. Like many of my friends in SG a quite a few i know have pyschological probs but not those to the extend of "being admitted to the asylum" more like pressures in life etc, family, $$. This is a long term problem which will continue to haunt the ruling party in their ever longing quest for efficiency and world class status.
Same goes to Msia as well, but at least here in MY i'm more relaxed than in SG. not relaxed in terms of less work, work is now even more but a much more balanced life.
reason why i started this thread is to remind everyone, that your life is worth more than a pot of gold, and you should cherish it no matter what the situation is. Never let anything like this to happen to you.

i totally agree..
Its very much depending on the person itself. If the company gives the work that is more than what that is supposed to be given.. that the employee themselves will have all the right to refuse.
As much as the employer thinks they are king, there are always legal avenue where the employee can fight their case. Those employer who thinks their staff are "slaves" - should be stoned to death.
I've been myself an employee and now employer (well used too..), i've been in a company where its well known to promote so called "slavery".. ekekek.. but i realised after years of working there, if me myself don't manage it well, i will end up working like a dog (probably worst) - and just gotta kill myself eventually.
So .. in summary... manage your work well.. and you'll be ok :)

hehe so far never happen like this . But sometimes i do feel for those who are not in a not so lucky position. They are forced to commit to real hard stress due to complications arising most of the time, either $$$ or family commitments. These are the real suffering cases, suffering in silence. Only finding peace at home. There are very few co's out there who would go all the way out to ensure that their human capital have the best place to prosper or achieve their career objectives. Most of the time, its the total opposite.
sigh i just hope with all these globalisation and modernisation humans still have a better place to live, hahaha.
ps. no wonder heart disease and cancer is the no 1 killer in Msia

agree with you that companies load you as much as they can, after all they are running a business. end of the day is to have the balls to make the decision. (something like what you did).
The saddest thing is that more ofthen than not the employee thinks that there is no other choice and accept the extra load. Esp in these time where most companies are doing cost cutting.
the place i work is also in similar situation where ppl quit and leave the work to the rest who stayed. Management called it expansion of responsibility but we all know what it is. Therefore the greatest sin is in letting the boss keep piling work on you. For me it's very simple, I have worked out what my role are and what are not. Anytime my boss ask me to do something out of my scope, i make sure he as hell he take he knows that i am doing extra.
bottom line, own your own career else no one will own it for you.
