hi folks...

i've been registered for sometime now but never had much to contribute and/or say since i got my D80 kit 2-3 months back. i'm very new to dslr photography so i really could use some schooling :D

before i go out and get myself an SB800, i found a "brand new" antique flash gun from one of my dad's shelves; apparently he's never used it. anyway, it's a Hanimex TZ328 and i suppose it's analog. funny thing is... i can't even find that much information about Hanimex on the internet to begin with. so yeah, i plugged in 4 AA batteries, switched it on, waited for the "Ready" light to go on, and hit the "Test" button. *poof* it flashes!

now that i know it works, i don't know yet if it would work on my D80. i've read a few threads over here with regards to the SB800 being able to communicate with the body so i'm pretty sure that won't work with this flash gun. apart from that, i don't know what other side effects it might have on the body if i were to put them together. any advice ?

Better check what's the voltage output by the flash
and should not exceed the limit of your D80's hotshoe..
I'm not sure about D80 voltage limitation... should be in your manual.
About the flash, you can use a voltmeter to measure the output

Might not be compatible with your Nikon TTL function as well. Everthing will be in manual mode.

Better used it as a slave unit than rather on ur camera hot show

The Hanimex TZ325 has a trigger voltage of 3 volts, which is safe. Yours is a TZ328, which may or may not be the same as the TZ325. Check the manual and look for the flash's trigger voltage.

Thanks very much guys...

After going through much of that, I decided to put that thing away for a while till I figure how to use it as a Slave unit without cords to the body (so i don't mess up my cam). I don't think it has a light sensor to trigger it so it will be a challenge. Manual lacks information too. :run_away:

That aside, i bought myself an SB800 over the weekend with all my collected ang paus :D Loving it but haven't had much chance to play around with CLS. So much to learn...

Any of you care to explain to me when would one need to use the Auto Aperture mode as opposed to the TTL mode since i'm already pairing it with a D80 ?

How to check the voltage of flash and hotshoe?
