View Full Version : Very Sad... Screwed in Lense Purchase Deal

Wow... Rat Year 2008... Just need to let off steam a bit...
I almost made 2 deals (1 is a very reputable shop in KL and the other an individual) to purchase a 2nd hand lense and both of them back out after confirming it...
I have ALL their PMs with me (MOD can check 'em if you like). They dont even have the courtesy to properly inform you in advance so that you dont have to make arrangement to travel here and there and withdraw money from the bank... Pls dont confirm it if they are not sincere in selling le... So sad... To make it worst, one of them give irrational excuses le...
Case 1. (The shop) I confirmed and they confirmed the deal at approx midnight and they open their shop next morning 11am and I reached their shop 12pm and they say sold ALREADY. Need to calm myself a bit la... Like that ka do business? Can get a better deal dont want to sell to me also sms me la... I run here run there... tired la... Dont make it worst by giving excuses.
I will never ever buy from that shop again and I'll make sure my friends do go there either...
Case 2. (Individual) I ask whether deal can do after CNY and he say, NO PROBLEM. He give last date 13Feb to deal. I rush back from Ipoh on 13 Feb and called on 13Feb and he say lense sold already...
Is honesty really that hard to stand up to? Sigh... Is a man's word not worth anything anymore?
These are just very small financial transaction and even this, people still can go back on their words? How many more men out there, that can keep his words?
Apologies for the ranting... tired la...

No surprise when you come across this mentality among some local sellers. We all have our fair share of frustrating experience. Consider yourself fortunate in some way you were not scammed with your hard-earned rinnggit by some scrupulous sellers who may show ads for something they never have. Others would hold back to get the best prices after pre-confirming with an earlier buyer. These 2 incidents should not deter you as there are many other very pleasant transactions conducted too in this photo community under the "For Sale" forum. Remember to stay alert for scams. Sometimes it is prudent to pay a little more from reliable sellers but there are several honest private sellers out here. Their description may go a little overboard and the item described as 'like-new' when there are obvious physical signs of usage. You have every right to enquire on 'return' privilege before the sale is concluded, not after however.

recently thanks to pos malaysia they screw up my postage and sent item a to buyer B and item B to buyer A and thankfully both of them agree to sent back to each other especially to the one who got the more expensive item which are worth RM500+ i would say 95% of the photography community are trustworthy person

unfortunately in todays society people are not of their word. I live by the policy that let your yes be a yes and your no be a no. Unless something seriously happens that alter the dynamics of the situation a person should always keep their word.
I personally believe, at the end of the day what do we as human's have left? Only our reputation.
I once bought a 2nd CF card from someone and agreed on the price. the same day i agreed the new price of the CF card reduced to the same amount i agreed on. I still bought it... cos i dun like to go back on my word... I just hope more ppl are like that...*sigh*

Look on the bright side.
Those sellers do not deserve your hard earned money.
Also, people of that nature are losers, they will eventually suffer for their folly, greed and dishonesty.
Cheers. :)

I am not sure bout you, but I do have buyers that promised "Akan Datang" and remained "Akan Datang" until the unit sold for like 4 days, then he called again... I just hang up on him.
But from the way u describe it ... they should have keep their word until the agreed period.
Don't worry, at least the money still with u. Cheer up.

i guess its normal if they are tempted at better offer but they should let you know.. but that still beats the idea since it's already confirmed and you came within time..
I do happened to me, but it is shorter, in less than 2 hours. Agree while I am on conference in KL, rushed to KL sentral, get a taxi ticket, paid, queuing for 30 minutes, called back fr seller cancel offer, coz someone offer rm50 extra (out off rm4700 deal), errrrrrr..... Worse, KL sentral refuse to pay back the taxi ticket, loss rm20

I wanted to get a lense from one guy here. As I was leaving the country for a while, I had to hold the sale until the week after. I already confirmed the price and wanted to purchase it from him and he had confirmed he will hold it. When i returned and called him, sadly he has sold the lense and told me too bad in the sms.
It was annoying to have to deal with such a guy like that. He actively sells here.
But thankfully, I managed to secure a better deal with a very good seller who agreed to hold the lense for me even if I didn't pay any deposit or promissory. I was late to meet him due to bad traffic jam that day but he was very understanding when i called and waited for me to arrive. Thanks man!
One more seller who i dealt with was very gentleman as well. He gave me a good discount after being late for the meeting but had contacted me to inform me.
I have not had any problems with any buyers as they were usually on time and very friendly. So not all buyers/sellers are terrible. Good communication plays an important role in a transaction.
Your hard earned money is better paid to someone who is worth your time.

Well s**t happens..
These guys' trust-worthyness apparently worth less than a mere RM50-200?
Well, at least inform the other party way before the transaction date/time as to not cause inconvenience to others...
Simply courtesy helps..
Consol yourself this way - if the seller has such an attitude, the lens may not be as described and can turn out to be a lemon anyway.....
ndgoh pm me those two shop name so i can be carefull when dealing with them...

Anyway, i cant say anything about this cause we havent meet up for that night, only confirmed the deal by sms...and he withdraw last minute. I dont know what is the reason , but he broke the word.

I has similar problem with one of the reputable shop. A year ago while I was searching for the 80-200 f.2.8 or any similar lens... this shop when I called he said they have 3 used copies... one of it cost RM1500 (push pull version).
The next day, go to the shop, try all 3 lens and asked him the price, shockingly he said the cheapest is RM1700... when I asked for the RM1500 lens he quoted to me before, he said oledi sudah jual... but all 3 lens was still there!!!???:? Am I at the wrong shop???:0
Later, I bought Sigma 70-200 F2.8 from individual seller.

Tresca, sometimes we have changes in mind.
Suddenly decided not to sell. Last minute think it's not a good move to sell. :( What can we do, people also back out with a reason. Of course really last minute back out like within the hour or whatever, not nice la.
Like say if i need to use the lens equipments tomorrow and today only you change your mind - it's a really WTH situation.
However the ones that I dislike are those one day tell you X price / reserve for you then suddenly it's higher price or sold to someone else.
Worse if you had to find it out yourself during the meet (like at the shop).
:)
Please do PM me the shop name, I wanna avoid buying from this kind of shop.

Let me share my experience with you guys. i was using point n shoot for while and feel that i need to advance to DSLR. i did research and decide on which branch of DSLR to go to.With limited fund, i decide to buy a used unit.
Then the day arrived where i meet a seller which is friendly and COD with him. He was rushing that day as he told me that he need to visit his relative in hospital but patiently COD with me. Without much of the knowledge of DSLR. Me n my bro went for COD and test out the cam without much of knowledge and experience (as long as it can capture image then it's fine as we thought) The unit is kinda heavy used but the seller told me that, it's in good condition n never dropped before. He tested few function n show me n giv me 1 week personal warranty.
Happy with my new acquired toy, i went back and tried it. To my horror, the unit pop up some error.Contacted the seller and he tell me that, the lens might be loose and ask me to tighten it. Still the error remain n kinda frustrated. Thinking that i might be conned by the seller, so i contacted him. He assure me that all r o,k n wiiling to meet up week after.
I waited for him for 2 hours but he did not show up.From the day onward his handphone is unreachable. Without his photo and name, it hard for me to track him down. Thanks to google and the info in the forum, i manage to get his photo n full name n contact. So i posted my story in the forum. Luck is on my side n the seller called me back to threaten to sue me for my posting. After some negotiation, he willing to pay for the repair of the unit which the kitlens malfunction.I purchase a new set of kitlens and the problem solved.
Well, my point is that, i did research and found out the unit problem by myself without camera shop help and learn a lot from this incident which help me to fastrack my knowledge with DSLR(good thing).
Since i want to forget the bad experience and i offer the unit for sale and bought another unit to press on for the amazing world of DSLR.
So, when bad thing happened to you, good thing will follow. Have faith.
My share of my bad experience. I once confirmed to buy a lens from a guy in Terengganu at the posted price -I did not even ask for any reduction/discount in price and he told me we can COD when he comes down to KL. I sent several PMs to me to ask him to confirm he will reserve for me so I can stop the search for my need. This is a confirmed deal anyway. He reply in bold letters "confirmed" and he will be down in KL in 1 week time.
So happily I waited... after 7 days no news, no sms and arrangement from him as promised, I sensed something is wrong... I PMed him and smsed him and he he replied me sold already- only 2 word in his sms...just that.. not even an apology/explantion.. I am actually quite angry as I felt he has no integrity at all.. I sent several PM to actually demand for at least an explanation/apology which I think it is necessary. After all, if he need to sell it earlier/urgently, at least just tell me. I can take it earlier. It is him that wanted to COD with me in KL.
Until today I have not receive any reply from him/ even have the responsibility to at least explain to me. In my PM/SMS to him, I never posted any offensive message/words to him and given him a chance to explain and apoplogies - nothing can be done anyway since he already sold it. I just want to know why... I always have trustworthy buyer/seller experience (on internet)until I came across to this person. I always thought people in photography are a lot more repsonsible/trustworthy... I learned my lesson now..This guys is quite active in trades and I wonder if any of you "kena" from him before... anyway, I do not intend to reveal him also...:) I already "forgave" him in my heart. In my last PM to him, I wish him all the best with his life..:) ... anyway, just to share my experience.....:(

I wanted to get a lens from one guy here. I already confirmed the price and wanted to purchase it and wait him at tesco ampang at 10.30 am @ RM 1500.after wait there about few hour he sms me and tell me his friend has sold the lens to other guy last night.i tell him that to be honest to me because he put the trade at 2.30 am and i'm the 1st person who called him that morning. A minute after that his friend sms me and said " lens with me come COD at subang @RM 1800 :P". See they have a syndicate to rise their price.ALL HIS SMS AND NUMBER WITH ME.
It was annoying to have to deal with such a guy like that. He both actively sells here.

From business point of view,
I think they have the right to sell as long as you don't make a downpayment.
If you have put some downpayment, they probably will wait for you.

IMHO, a promise is a promise. If you've made a promise, keep it!
Down payment is a different story altogether. If you require down payment, then make it loud and clear from the beginning. Don't use "no down payment" as an excuse not to keep your promise if it's not asked for in the first place.

If you sell things before.. then you will understand. Have you encounter before customer promise to buy but never come? So who want to blame who at the end ?
We not sure how he talk to the seller .. but one thing for sure for business pratice... make some downpayment first ..if you badly need the stuff, especially which need long booking period.

couldn't agree more..
i believe some people do not honor their promise maybe because they got a better offer after confirming the sale with another person.. and like you said, a promise is a promise.. should keep it even though if it means that you have to sell the item at a lower price.. with or without any deposit up front..

If i run a camera shop and a customer wants to order a lens, of course he has to pay a deposit. fair and square.
If i want to sell an old lens on hand, then there's no need for deposit is there? COD. If the other party promises but never turns up, then it's just my luck. I'll know better than trusting him next time.

i'm about to do a transaction with a second hand seller. i hope he don't mind me posting about this, but i won't reveal his screen name or the deal or anything lah.
but do you guys have any tips/advise regarding this? Both of us cannot meet up for COD and is arranging for online bank transfer and courier service.
So far, i have a good impression of his character from our online exchanges.
I'm requesting him to email me the latest picture of the camera and thinking of getting a bank guarantee to facilitate this transaction.
What do you guys think? Got any experience to share? 50% deposit ke, or other types of security bond?

A promise is a promise... else don't promise. Its just cameras and lenses only ma. Why so difficult to keep promises meh? It reflects on your character and the kind of person you are. If cant complete the deal also, pls inform the other person early, early ma... I know how you feel... running around like donkey and nobody show up.
Make down payment is a risk unless is a small amount. COD is the best unless the seller is a trusted person. So many SCAMS around.
I do business and I can trust people easily and got screwed so many times but all small amount only. But I build reputation for keeping promises... I can just screw my partners and become rich just like that... if I want to.

Bank guarantee or security bond? Walao... Not practical la... COD is the best method as you can also inspect the goods.
Bank in and courier is risky de... Unless you know this him.
in this sinario, deal via paypal, sure there is some deduction from paypal as well but normally bourn by seller. If seller/buyer screw up. Report to paypal, they will refund the $$ & bad fella will be blacklisted. :0

Guys, sorry to hear the bad experience you faced.
I'm found some good offer in some thread, perhaps can you share with me the shop's name and the dealer name/nick to keep myself pay extra careful & caution when dealing with them?
Please PM me. Thanks.
P.s. Promise won't reveal their name in forum.
Hi all.
I haven't had such bad deal before. Thank God!
But some of these days, surely one will faced a bad day. Not just from a reputable shop, but maybe from a 'senior' registered forum member as well.
COD is the best thing to do. But doesn't mean that 100% buy and sells had to be COD, if we can confirm of the seller id and history.
My suggestion: If one happens to be fooled by any shop or individual, at least, we report to the MODERATOR. Please put a side the 'reputable' title or 'senior' title.
When we do something wrong, it's wrong. I don't believed in doing things for good, but doing it the wrong way.
Hiding their names would made things worse since not many of us have the opportunity to COD, mostly members like me, from outside of KL/Klang valley.
If we promised not to reveal the names in public, at least tell MODERATORs who they are.
MODERATORs can block their ID, etc, and maybe make this virtual world a safer place to trade things and so forth.
:)

easier said than done... esp. in "Bolehland" ... suing and countersuing is for the big [loaded] boys...
in "Bolehland", if you don't have a big fat account or a big fat title... you are simply asking for it if you plan to sue someone... you WILL get screwed in the arse... [ and that is not even concensual, ie sect.377b ~ earlier charge Anwar was facing!!! ]
So unless you have tangible proof [audio/video/pix] of d'fler screwing u... better be careful who/what/where/how you say about d'fler that screwed u...errrr, I mean; about your lens sale....

hi guys.
i'm about to do a transaction with a second hand seller. i hope he don't mind me posting about this, but i won't reveal his screen name or the deal or anything lah.
but do you guys have any tips/advise regarding this? Both of us cannot meet up for COD and is arranging for online bank transfer and courier service.
So far, i have a good impression of his character from our online exchanges.
I'm requesting him to email me the latest picture of the camera and thinking of getting a bank guarantee to facilitate this transaction.
What do you guys think? Got any experience to share? 50% deposit ke, or other types of security bond?
pardon me for my english....
:D got experience similar to this....dealing with a nice and trustworthy guy from klang...my location is penang
before i bank in the money, i ask him to scan his i/c and take photo of the package. what did i got?? of cos his i/c and he even mailed me pictures that show me how he packed all the items in a box from the beginning till he sealed it!!Full of safety...and it convince me a lot!!!!
As for the delivery, he even paid the bill for me... (even though on our deal i agree to pay for the delivery bill...:P thanks man) then, after he done with the delivery, he mailed me the slip that show he has already give the package to the courier service...
What i have to do now is just wait till tomorrow morning or afternoon to received the package.... :D LOL...can't sleep bcos very excited to wait for the delivery...hehe..

Really very SAD :(.
Some people take this e-business opportunity 'to make' money eventhough this is not the right way.
Must avoid this kind of people!!!.
