I have just bought Tamron SP90, nikon mount a couple of days ago. The weird thing about this lens is that if you shake/wave it, you will be able to hear sound from within the lens... sound like something is loose inside.
Is this normal for this lens (Tamron SP AF Di 90mm 1:2.8 macro @55)?
Maybe sifu-sifu who have this lens can check for me.
Thanks.
Quite normal in my lens. I read somewhere that it's a feature, not a bug.

moz and tresca, both of you own this lens too and when you shake it you can hear weird sound from within the lens too?
If that's the case, then it's normal for this lens. I was afraid the lens was broken already when I bought it.
Please confirm. Many thanks.

Donkie, are you waving the lens attached to the camera?
Note that certain camera eg Canon 400D has a small ball bearing like thingy inside the body that rattles when you shake the camera. This rattling ball is actually a device to register the orientation of the camera eg vertical or horizontal.
When I detached the SP 90 from the camera body and wave it gently, there is no sound. Maybe because I had the lens on manual focusing????
BTW BE GENTLE when waving the lens especially with the front element is fully extended. If you knock something or shake it forcefully, your front element can become mis-aligned, then your image will be sharp on one side and blurred on the other. Or top good and bottom out.
Suggest that you take the lens back to the shop and ask to test-wave similar lenses there. But the Shopowner may hentam you if he spot you waving all his lenses LOL.
Or join us at the next macro outing and ask for permission to wave our lense - this may attract more dragonflies and bugs to our happy hunting ground.

No, I just wave it by itself, without attaching to the camera. Regardless of the setting on the lens (AF/MF), I just wave it slightly, or turn it, I can hear sound. Sound like spring, or metal ball bearing rolling...
I think I am going back to the shop...

Sure, would love that.
