My Daredevil Food Diary - Balut

This is what a 16 week old Balut (fertilized duck egg) looks like...once you get over the initial squeamishness....they are very tasty...eaten with salt and vinegar and chillies...low in calories, high in protein and calcium and also unfortunately in cholesterol...i had my 1st two yesterday...feel quite addicted to them...

Look at the attractive body and the feathers do taste good...

Have you eaten this before?

This is a Filipino delicacy. Once a Filipino colleague returned from his hometown and brought me a few to try. He taught me how to break the top of the egg to drink the "soup" first. I did not find it very appetizing and left them in my fridge. The next day, not a single one was left! My expecting wife finished all of them and she loved it! It's pretty potent and one egg could sustain you the whole day!
