As this is my first time experimenting food photography. I need experienced photographer to comment on how I can improve further. Your critiques and recommendation is greatly appreciated.

If you could read and understand everything he says, you would be one of the best in Malaysia.

I find that food photographing requires back lighting to be nice. Good try with the awesome composition :-)

try to use plain plate and bring more light to shape the rice. This will bring more realistic picture of the subject and enhance the desire to eat the sushi....

keep the light from behind as a main light and the front light as a fill in.
also shallow depth of field helps a lot; its nothing really complicated

Food photography is an amazing kind of photography. Lighting is the most important factor that should be considered in food photography. If you are doing food photography for first time then you have done a great job. I also like the last two food photographs very much which has been shared by allphoto.

the last photo actually fails as a proper food photo due to lack of depth of field.
