nikon flash alternative

I'd like to buy the nikon sb700 flash but it's a bit pricey. Is there an equivalent alternative ?

Save up for the original. If you get cheaper brands, sooner or later you will find yourself wondering why you didn't get the original. Alternatively, look for an older second hand SB600.

Or get a second hand SB800. The prices seem to be going down.. and if you're lucky you can get a unit that's hardly been used for slightly more then a second hand SB600.

But, yes I agree with Alan and would go for a Nikon flash. Accept no substitutes..

Can you give some reasons/features/advantages why you recommend Nikon flash instead of compatible/cheaper ones...

the china ones with higher grade in quality seems to be good at times, but still prone to problems.. easily broken

a Work Horse SB-600 would be a good flash to start. If you are into Nikon "CLS" Creative Lighting System, a couple of SB-600 and a SU-800 comes in handy.
