Concert and Gig is handled by a few companies, different market different shooter. Same goes for most fashion shoots, there a handful of studio that takes 90% of the jobs.

I always gets offers like that, 200-500rm. I just say no thanks, better find someone else who can deliver for that budget

imagine....in JB. my friend told me ppl only charge 350RM for a full day shoot..........

as warn by my sis's fiancee, which is a full time photog in Aus. never give out free job....
it's not only killing the market, it's killing your own market too....
set a rate according to your level and don't underestimate yourself too much.

for me, i will only do free jobs for my very very very close friend (even so, will reach an agreement with them "if anyone ask about it, just say it's a pay job" even among friend)
the reason is very clear, as most of the ppl will takes thing for granted when it comes to hiring a photographer. when they know you are doing free job, they will hunt u down next time to save on $$. even it's ur own friend. so, be warned .....

i just couldnt stand when ppl start to question you
"why so expensive la, only take pictures only what....."
then i will reply.
"ask ur family take for u lo, using a Point & shoot. Why bother to hire a photographer?"
hehehehehhee, i don't mind turn down such job. as this kind of ppl normally the kind of ppl tht will complaint about the picture even if u do free job for them.

P/S: JUST DON'T LABEL URSELF AS A "CHEAP" photographer...

Well we all got to start somewhere, just be careful who you choose to shoot for free cause once you start doing for free there is no turning back.
it's easy, when i shoot FOC for building portfolio, you must let ur client know the value of it... and specifically let ur client know that if someone ask how much the package, make sure ur client answer a certain figure like RMXXX (definitely not RM0)....

that way, u take care of the market, take care of ur client and won't be seen cheap !

NGO campaign no need tax-payer's moolah.
if everyone (photographers) unite, maybe there is a chance that things will change.

Hehehe been there done that, I'm so out of weddings. I'm just saying be careful who u choose to shoot for free, not everyone is trust worthy. And for your info I have never shoot for free, even close relatives would still give me a token of appreciation which range from (RM350 cheapskate to RM800 with a nice thank you). The Malaysian mentality just killed me.
