Anybody interested in MF lenses?

Anybody here in to Manual Focus lenses? Like Leica R, Olympus Zuiko, Minolta, Contax, Zeiss, Pentax etc....

I have a Carl Zeiss 50/1.4 T* Planar Contax/Yashica mount and a Asahi Pentax SMC Takumar 50/1.4 M42 mount. I have an adaptor and use them on a Canon 5D.

If you are interested, put your hand up!

Here is a shot with the Zeiss.

superb sharp images....

just clearing my doubts here, its it quite hard to manual focuz on the subject that u wanna take? coz there is no circle thingy on our focusing screen like those in the film slr(if u know what i mean)....
then how do you get such sharp images?

Yoz,

Not as classical on the lenses, but I'm using a ZF Zeiss 85mm on my 5D and when i want to get a closer shot, I just swap it over to my 450D.

Here is one

I haven't changed my screen But you can get EE-s (for 5D) and I am not sure on the model name for the 40D or 400D series cameras. But they are available. You can also get split screens (with the centre circle thing) for Canon EOS cameras. I find focusing just fine with the standard screen. You can really see the subject go in and out of focus, so that makes focusing pretty easy.

TOO Sharp for portraits and you are right, the bokeh is a little harsh. I just acquired a SMC Takumar 50/1.4 and that is on the way. So that should be a better alternative.

For portraits, I would go with the Leica R 90/2, Jupiter 9, Helios 40-2 (weird bokeh), Nikkor AI-S 85 1.4. Some people like the Zeiss Planar T* 85/1.4 but I am unsure on that one.

But wide open, the 50/1.4 can make softish bokeh.

at 1.4

You got any more shots? Do you find your 85/1.4 Planar a little too contrasty or too sharp for portraits? I am considering the Planar 85/1.4, Nikkor AI-S 85/1.4, Leica R Summicron 90/2 and the good old Canon EF85 1.8.

Get the Leiva R 90/2 , one you touch R, all other lenses are rubbish. I just met with a very avid leica & zeiss collector / trader. My gosh... except for the Canon 85mm F1.2, i think everything below 200mm got discredited by him, over leicas and zeiss and other MF lenses.

I just got myself a Contax Zeiss 135mm F2 , a bit scratch on the element and dust, but slurp slurp slurp... adapter coming tomorrow, post ore
