Nikon D800 is HERE! 36.3 Megapixel Monster

It seems much the same as the D4 spec wise.

Quote:
As you might expect, the D800 adopts many new features from the D4, while maintaining a smaller D700-like footprint. You get the same Advanced Scene Recognition System with 91k-pixel 3D Color Matrix Metering III, 1080/30p HD video with 20 adjustable audio levels and uncompressed HDMI output, in-camera two-consecutive-shot HDR and Active D-Lighting. In addition to the difference in resolution (remember, more megapixels doesn't necessarily translate to better quality images), you also lose the D4's 2.7x crop mode, which effectively multiplies your focal length by 2.7, bringing you closer to your subject without the need to a longer lens or teleconverter.

Price wise it will definitely be more expansive compared to the D700.
We are paying pixels per pixels for sure.

At 3000$ you get a lot of MP...

Great new line up for Nikon there, just wonder what that means for the D3x - is the 'x' series dead?
Wouldn't be surprised if there won't be a 'D4x' as those cameras are mostly used in controled environments by the pros and for that the build quality will do (and it does come with weather sealing as well).

Now while I think the improvements of the D4 over the D3 is not really worth the much extra cash needed to upgrade I'm not so sure about the D800 - it might well complement my trusty D3... One for speed and low light, one for highest resolution when light is plentyful...

Hmmm...

Yah I think this will be the end of the x nomination for more megapixels.

D800 looks like it's gonna be a champ!

I'm really happy with my D7000 right now though.
