Trying My DIY Pinhole Lens

Actually I was wondering what is the function of pinhole camera on producing image. The hole is very small. I try with the hole size tip of the pin and I cant see anything in my viewfinder..haha. Then I make it larger similar to the size of the pin itself and there's some image.

So I try to shoot something. The result was - from the picture itself, I see my sensor got lots of dust!!! I need to send it out for service!!!

However, on the other side, it's quite challenge to take the photo using pinhole camera. Luckily I am using a DSLR, but how about the film and the basic pinhole camera? How to know it's underexpose or overexpose?

Pinhole teach me the basic of the light, lens and medium itself. Also remind me on the early photographers using pinhole camera to capture a photo without any help of modern gadget - or at least there's a photoshop that time? How do they struggle to get good photos?

Just to share...

Thumbs up

That's pretty good series for a 1st try. as you can see, no glass lenses, no flare on the last foto.

As for exposure its a matter of trial & error unless one can determine the size of the pinhole vs the distance (focal length) to the sensor (or film)plane to calculate that figure.

But there are tons of material regarding this subject on the Net, why don't you start a thread on the subject, you will be surprise how many are interested
