You might begin to understand why photographers charge what they charge after you finally set up something decent to take product pics.

Having said that, you usually need more than 1 source of light to make products look good. Theres no choice but to spend the upfront money unless you wish to rely on desk lights, sunlight or just a mirror or reflector to bounce the light. Also, a good sturdy tripod is essential.

Hmm yea. Btw which will u think is a better option?

1) get 1 430ex ii 1st and rely on table lamp for other source of lightning and such 1st until budget allow to get another 430ex ii

2) straight away get 2 (or even 3) nissin di622

bear in mind that i will definitely use 1 of the flash gun outside studio for portrait or shooting food in restaurant :p

I'd get 2 or 3 of the Nissins first along with the stands to support them. You would need something to trigger them. There are those budget china brand radio triggers you can get.

You might want to visit the upper level of the Kinokuniya bookstore in KLCC. I remember they had a couple of books on product photography that might be useful to start with.

ahh i see....although KLCC is 400km far from me, but will go there and have a look when i got the chance :p

oh btw, another question is, can i put 580ex 2 on 1 side, and 430ex 2 on the other side?

isit possible to set both to fire the same amount of poweR?

Ah, too bad then.

One of them has a higher power output. So you have to lower the power on the 580ex to match the 430ex. Either that or you can alter the distance of the flash to the subject, which also alters the intensity of light that lands on the subject. But I'm not sure why you want both of equal power, because it usually looks better when one side is less intense.

oh...i see...hm....i dont know that it will look better if 1 side is less intense, i am worried that i am unable to set both of the flash to fire at the same power (since 1 got higher max power) then it will be bad

looks like i really need more experiment already, and time to spend :S

thanks again
