Hi Master,
Below is how my flash diffuser looks like, is this this angle good enough? coz most of my macro pics i taken kind of having hard shadows and the lighting is not soft. Can advice if anywhere is wrong? DSC06267.JPG DSC06268.JPG

Hi yiling929, you can try raynox dcr250 or extension tubes. http://orionmystery.blogspot.com/201...for-macro.html dcr250 on your 17-70 might give you up to 0.56x only. full set of extension tubes (68mm) might give you close to 1:1 Anyway, it's all estimate only. Best way to calculate magnification is to shoot an mm ruler. http://orionmystery.blogspot.com/201...calculate.html Quote:

hi OM,
i've try out the alignment u suggest on the link, but then if i put the diffuser directly on top of the MFD area, when i shot the jumping spider, the body below the eye is totally dark. like picture below DSC00126.jpg i will post my latest alignment of my diffuser tonight.

that's a common problem with snoot diffuser as mentioned in this post: http://orionmystery.blogspot.com/200...ng-setups.html you can probably further modify your snoot diffuser to something like a horse shoe i.e U shape so some of the light can illuminate the lower part of the subject. Eventually, you want to move on to using bracket: My macro rig: http://orionmystery.blogspot.com/200...n-and-now.html More macro rig: http://orionmystery.blogspot.com/201...acro-rigs.html

how do you think for extension tube cap ayam brand like below? although it does not have manual focus (which macro does not need to). coz if non cap ayam brand cost around rm5xx for kenko brand...not afford. i feel using optical magnifier like raynox will have degrade picture quality.
http://www.lelong.com.my/macro-exten...-01-Sale-I.htm on your blog you mention 'ii. those with electrical contacts -these will cost more, obviously, but I highly recommend it though. Unlike the no-electrical-contact-type, you can still control your aperture freely, and your view finder won't be dim either because you don't have to pre-set your aperture to the usual macro setting of normally F11.' what do you mean by i can control aperture freely if use electrical contact type?

ohh, u mean those cap ayam brand (non electrical) cannot control the aperture? need to attach the lens to body, then set aperture then remove lens and attach the ET + lens ?
