this thread is a result of a discussion i had earlier with Duke on a photographer who did this in PK.
im really interested to know what the public has in mind when it comes to this.
opinions and discussions are very much welcomed.

It is depend, if newbies wanna try out their skill, better have an experience buddy to guide, coz if shooting skill is not good, it would spoil the wedding couple day!

I've been asked by close frens to shoot their wedding. And my answer is alwiz the same.
Please contract a proper Wedding Photographer. I'll just shoot as back up. Cause I wanna enjoy the food during weddings as well.

Basically, I'm not into wedding photography. Cause the hours and after work is really too tiring. So strike a deal with ur wedding photographer, and pay them well.

Anyone who offers FOC wedding photography can potentially cause problems for other photographers who actually make living from this. That's a fact.

However, we do live in a free country (supposedly) and couples are free to make their own decision while photographers are free to charge or not to charge. Most people would agree that using a photographer who openly advertises as being FOC would be very risky. If they want to risk it, that's their own choice.

Honestly, I still feel that 'pro' photographers who make a living from weddings don't have much to fear from FOC photographers if their own work quality is consistent and good. Established wedding photographers here are still making good money as they have already established trust in the market. Upcoming photographers are probably more adversely affected as they are nowhere as established yet.

One thing's for sure, once the FOC photographers get good feedback from their 'clients', they'll definitely be charging next!

I would shoot a wedding free for friends or people I know. It is more as a favour than a service.
Anyway, some of the people around me can't afford a wedding reception photographer anyway... so there's no business in the first place.

In any case, if they are not confident enough to charge the clients, that probably means mereka tak sampai level lagi. Pro wedding photographers would easily kick their arse.
It is probably a first step for some amatuer photographers to built a reputation and test the market. How many FOC wedding photo sessions can they afford to give? Some day will come when they have to justify the cost, time & effort of shooting a wedding.

Personally I have no problem.

When I started out I do shoot for free. If you can't deliver that level of quality its hard to ask for payment sometimes. Most of the time the couple would just give me back an angpow.

But like what a lot of them said here, when the couple were to compare the work between a pro-wedding photographer and amature ones they will see the difference, then they will realize that its worth the money to hire one.

Unless of course if you are a pro and wan to do FOC then there is nothing to say. Like Gojira said its a free country after all.

when buy stuffs, want cheap-cheap one, if got free gifts, would be better.
so same thing apply to weddings.
some photographers offer cheap or free service, but the customer still need to make the final call.
if you are really good, can deliver something good, don't be afraid.
if u can't get any wedding job, don't blame those cheapo-service photographer.
either blame on your poor marketing skill, or blame on your poor photography skill.
pointing finger to other people is a lame thing to do.

Cheap things not goot and good things not cheap.

Same goes to services.

What more if it's FREE. The customer can't complaint rite?

Especially when an event such as a wedding. If the pictures don't come out good, can the couple blame the photographer? Too late for that rite?

I truely support what noruazumi has said.
