Calling Taiping Locals!

Since my days in northen region is becoming less and less, so I'm planning to have a photography day trip and the destination is Taiping. The plan is somewhere end of December 2008 or somewhere in January 2009. I've heard so many good places to go and good food to eat. I did some google-ing and so far I wanted to visit these places:
1. Taiping Zoo
2. Prawn mee @ Kuala Sepetang
3. Charcoal factory @ Kuala Sepetang

Now, if you have more info on these places or any other places that _really_ worth the visit, do let me know! I want to sketch out a schedule so that the day trip is fully-optimized. The day trip is about taking photo, eat and eat. If you wish to recommend an eating place, I do hope the place serves Halal food. Thanks in advance!

zumi,
Was at Taiping zoo last Sat on my way back from Pg to KL. The zoo is much much smaller than KL Zoo but some of the enclosures are more spacious with more space. In some areas a lot of animals are mixed like deer,zebra,giraffe,birds..
There are 3 tigers but waited for them to wake up from their sleep from 12-almost 3pm but no luck..
I couldn'tt find any lions or maybe there aren't any. The hippos are permanently in the water hence called water hippos so you will only get shots of their head above the water if you are lucky, otherwsie they are almost all the time under water.
Maybe it was very cloudy and gloomy so the animals were in sleep mode.
Didnt get to shoot much apart from some orang utans..

The tigers do look much better than the ones at KL Zoo so hopefully you're lucky to catch them awake.
I like your KPI...must go to zoo...any proper zoo by the time I'm 30.
Lets organise a photo shoot to Singapore zoo.. heard its really nice as it's got a lot of natural surroundings.

I hope so too. I'll bring my ball-bearing slingshot just in case. Haha. Just kidding.

Yes, I heard Singapore Zoo is very nice. I heard there are White Tigers but from what I read, the White Tigers were bred by cross-breeding. Anyway, I think a daytrip to Singapore is possible by bus from KL if people are into backpacking style.
