errmm...nid flash during the shooting?...
i remember last year i nid to use very small aperture to avoid overexposure...and the distance is very far...

some advises:
1) Get sun block (you gonna get grill by the sun)
2) Get a cap, for me i use a "tuala" (2 in 1 function, wipe sweat and can use as cap)
3) Long lense require for dragon boat race (range about/between 200mm and above depending on what you wan to shoot and the allowable distance the organizer close off)
4) Water...you get thirsty very soon
5) Short lense? you can capture on the atmosphere (human and their gear)
6) Flash? Depending on your style, for use on capturing atmosphere and not the actual race.
7) Tripod? Yes, if you are shooting the actual dragon race.
