New Nikon prime lens announced

My 35mm f2 AF-D will go into retirement soon.

28mm f1.8G AF-S coming soon:
http://www.nikon.com/news/2012/0419_lens_03.htm

Matched with 50mm and 85mm 1.8 G lenses it should offer excellent image quality at affordable price.

Update: bought the 28mm 1.8, about 760$ here in Bangkok.
Fantasico. Great lens, nice bokeh, quite good AF speed.
Excellent.

1) BTS skytrain, slow shutter:

Tried to shoot this with my RX-100 btw, not possible really, you might get lucky but can plan such a shot. With my D3 I get shots with accurate focus out of every burst I take.

2) "It was that big..."

3) 100% crop:

4) Indoor shot to illustrate under what conditions the next shot was taken:

5) This was on the wall somewhere inside there:

In the field when using this lens AF can be a bit slow/hard to acquire if it is very dark. Picture #4 was such a situation; don't be mislead by the photo however, it is much brighter than it really was, I over exposed quite a bit there.

In fact this is common to all lenses - the difference is that with most other lenses you wouldn't even attempt to shoot in such a dark environment.
My buddy had the 14-24mm f2.8 on his D3 and it was clearly over the limit for this lens, f2.8 was not fast enough in there.

AF speed is fast and accurate nut not as instant as on some pro lenses (like on the f2.8 24-70 for example). Still it is faster than the 50nn 1,4 and certainly fast enough for everyday use and moving stuff. I don't see AF speed as a problem at all with this lens.

It's a great lens, light and quite small, and it really can push the limits in low light shooting.
