Dell 2408 Ultrasharp LCD

It costs RM 2609...
any recommendations for a S-iPS panel that costs under RM 2000 for photo editing?

Dell was offering abt that price during the last PC fair. BTW, the 2408 is a S-PVA panel.

siew...

Was told there are the following panels in order of better resolution;
TN
VA
IPS
S-IPS

As such to buy the S-IPS...can you please assist in your recommendation and help explain the various panels and what the best solution is in terms of cost-performance...
Thanks

Hi ST,
Thanks for taking the trouble to dig out the thread for me but I've read it and bookmarked it also. This was the source of my info on the panels in fact..
That's why I'm confused with what is S-PVA as this is not mentioned in his article.
Wanna get a decent LCD but not costing above RM 2K la..

No worries, from that info you can go on Google and Wikipedia, plenty of info about panel types.

Using the tool provided you can find which models are using which panel types, search for reviews and make your own comparisons.

Pretty tough to get a good panel below 2k, should be looking at about 2.5-3k.

ST's link is useful and I have to agree that there isn't much choice if your budget is about RM2,000. The cheapest option is the 19" Samsung 971P (S-PVA panel) about RM1,200 in Nov 2007. I was told this model has been discontinued. Just to give you a perspective of the pricing of higher end models e.g. the 20" Samsung XL20 (AMVA panel) is priced at USD1,700.

I suggest that you also pay this website a visit http://www.prad.de/en/monitore/reviews.html and try understanding the calibration reports. And last but not least, invest in a good monitor calibrator. Happy searching.

PS Other than the Dell 2408, the Samsung 245T is worth a look. Amazon is retailing at abt USD700+.

ST & siew,
thanks very much for your sharing of info.
If I really need to spend above RM 2k then I guess I'll have to..with everything going thru the roof, thought I'll try not to spend as low as possible..
Am using the basic Colorvision Spider monitor calibration...
will consider your recommendation on the Samsung..not in a rush tho..

i'm not sure whether its me or the QC of dell has drop dramatically, i've got 3 replacement from Dell for this model.

problems:

1. power button dead
2. flickering screen
3. flickering screen again, sudden shut off when displaying hi-def image.

i'd seriously reconsider buying a dell's monitor.
