D3s high ISO

Pretty amazing what the reworked D3s does at high ISO looking at some comaprisons; I just hope Nikon stays with their philosophy of making a low count MP high ISO model and a high MP model as in the 3Ds and 3Dx.

To me cranking up the ISO and still shooting with good IQ is way more important than a few extra pixels.
Nikon, stay with 12MP for the D4, pleeease!!!

Pixel size does matter when it comes to low light photography, the smaller sensor and higher MP of the Canon comes to show at 1600ISO already:

What if the D4 comes out with 18MP but also have the same ISO performance as the D3s?

As said I would prefer 12MP with better performance than 18MP with same.
Simple as that.

If they stay with 12MP it always will be better than 18MP in terms of high ISO.

Yah I'm find with 12-14mp personally, more than that is a waste unless you're shooting billboards.

Then you can use D3x.

Why put the measly 12mp into the successor to the D3? Whatever that replaces the D3 will have higher resolution AND similar or higher ISO capability, thus making the D3 an obsolete chunk of metal. Thats how they make customers keep upgrading and the company afloat.

That's where we disagree.

If they can make a 18MP D4 with same ISO perf than D3
then
they could make a 12MP D4 with BETTER iso perfom than D3

instead or more MP with same ISO perf I get same MP with BETTER iso perfom.
I much prefer that.

If they can make D4 with 18MP with one stop better ISO perfom than D3
then
they can make D4 with 12MP with TWO stop better ISO perfom than D3

Again I prefer two stop better ISO perfom over one stop better and more MP.

For me I hope they can work on expanding the dynamic range more like the Fuji S3/S5Pro..

That'd be great!

Sorry if it's random, i've always wondered if noise would be less if a picture is shot at a lower resolution than what the camera allows. I.e in a 12MP camera, would shooting at lower megapixels produce less noise?

nah, doubt it, as you are just changing the output image size; the sensor that captures the image is exactly the same, so recording is the same.
