Semporna and the Islands. Sun, Sand and Saltwater

Ok some pictures from a trip to Semporna, Sabah 3 months ago. Visited 5 islands (Mabul included) and a bunch of sea villages. Beautiful place, hot weather, dangerous shooting environments, lots of fun.

Will add photos on a regular basis...

1. First morning, cloudy and a bit worrying, but I needn't have worried.

2. View in front of hotel, we would go 'out there' and beyond basically every day!

3. My limit is no barrier

4. Fake Plastic Head

5. Heading out, feeling the breeze and the hot sun.

Nice series, like first one in particular.

However there are few issues:

1) At 1/15 and f3.5 at 400ISO this shows that a tripod cannot be replaced in certain situations.
For this sort of wide angle scenery shot boats and both the town across the river should be crisp sharp and you should close down aperture to achieve that.
Secondly there's quite some distortion, would try to correct in PS. Third there is a 'bar' on the right of the image - was it shot through a window?

4) Seems to have sharpening/compression artifacts in face.

5) face in shadow; use fill in flash. Extreme wide angle has lot of distortion, person looks strange because of that. Person is not really in focus - you went down to f11 and 1/50sec - that shutter speed is too slow for the movement of the boat/person. You can see it as well on the waves, they are not sharp either (and they should be as it sure is not lack of depht of field at f11).

Hey thanks t4fs for some of the observations and feedback! I welcome it.

You're right first one was shot through window, was too lazy to deploy tripod cause I was a bit sleepy at that time z.z. Not great weather anyways...

Correct again on #4! Prob due to some OOF issues, requiring some extra sharpening.

#5, I'm okay with the shadows, and certainly have no probs with perspective stretching, but yeah should paid more attention to shutter speed, a flaw of mine of often not checking it before shooting as I tend to habitually favor shooting 'response' over checking technical settings first.

Here's 5 more....

6. Pulau Sibuan

7. Playing with Leaves

8. Kid climbing towards coconuts

9. Bounty from the Sky

10. Prob a salt water bath.
